Absolutely! But don't just think you're a healthy person because you don't smoke, humans need plenty of exercise, cut down on salt try to avoid foods with high levels of saturated fats. Peoples need to do atleast an hours worth of exercise a day that increases the heart beat, this has been proven to lower your chances of developing diseases that accur in later life.
Before I started smoking, I could swim 10 lengths of a 50m Olympic standard pool with ease, before I would start running out of breath. Now after having been a smoker on and off for 10 years, I start panting after 2 lengths and completely run out of breath by the time I am done with the third. It badly effects the stamina. I have recently quit, and I hope it stays this way.
I would like to point out that smoking is not a habit. It is an addiction. People just refers smoking as a bad habit, because they feel bad to admit that they are actually addicted to a substance called Nicotine. Smoking is just one way to deliver Nicotine to a human body. Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to be a smartass. I just know from my personal experience that understanding that difference is crucial for anyone, who wants to stop smoking. I stopped smoking about a month ago and at this moment it seems to be the best decision I have ever made. On the other hand, I feel that smoking is a personal choice and as long as it is legal, there is no reason to haunt people, who smoke. Live and let others live as well.
I got back into playing football about a year ago, starting to reach a decent standard again. But smoking is really holding me back, but it's so hard to give it up! I think I need help.
