Effective Keyword Research

    1. Use the twelve (12) high priority keywords

    2. Check the word count/search volume of each priority keywords using google adwords and word tracker tool.

    3. Check the Number of Competing Pages for Google and Yahoo just to have an idea about the competition for that given keyword.

    4. Check the keyword density and prominence using gorank tool. The keyword density is the ratio of the keywords contained within the total number of indexable words within a page. The keyword prominence is how prominent the targeted keywords within the web page. In the On-page optimization it is consider as part of the keyword analysis as how the targeted keywords are used within the page.

    5. Used the Semrush and Spyfu tool to search for the top ten results for each keyword. The top 10 results are considered main competitors of the website for the given key phrase.

    It might help if you explain how. A rough "finger in the air" guide is to perform an allintitle: search on your keywords. For more details, read Dan Thies.

    Won't searching in Google give you the top ten results for "the phrase"?

    I think he means to go get a breakdown of the top 10 competing sites or pages such as their page rank, age, backlinks ans keyword usage in title, description and H1 tags.

    Good but painfully long and time consuming. Find a keyword tool that does this for you... focus on Google and spend a whole lot less time doing the same thing.

    But the most important part of the process is checking to see who already has the top few spots and seeing if you can outrank them for that phrase. KEI is a great start.
