Its a nice template. I think you should move the recent entries and recent comments section out of the way so that the blog entries fall directly under the slideshow.

Do you have photoshop or know someone that does? You can turn the text that you have up now into a logo at least and jazz it up a bit.

I think the theme is working great. I like how everything is laid out, I think the social media buttons are effective and I REALLY like how you emphasize your content and not your ads. Visitors to your site will also appreciate this. I agree that a snazzy logo would really cap off a very nice looking news blog, so let us know when you've added it. Maybe could you expand your About section a little bit. You talk about spreading awareness, but maybe you could write a few brief sentences about some of the issues? Also, you probably don't need comments enabled on the contact form, and you may or may not want it for about and other static pages.
Sorry, I will elaborate for you. I would put the menu bar and the links in the top right, together to the right of the logo. I definitely agree with getting a logo designed. you got a cool theme in your website, news are well served, but personally it is too narrow too US and Middle East news, hope that in the future you can put more parts of the world news into ur website.
When you hover "share the knowledge" it shows almost 90 different placed to share.. It's just too much.. Rather stick to twitter/facebook/rss. It looks unserious now. But beside that it's a great site with the most important thing, CONTENT!
