Anybody now any tricks to optimizing for google.ca, I have a .ca domain and ranks well in google.com for keywords + Canada but not for keywords in google.ca. I figure most Canadians will be searching in google.ca
How do you know it's not ranking well in Canada if you are searching from the USA? Are you using a tool to eliminate the IP bias?
It's really weird as google already knows that the website is for canadian audience and it shouldn't really rank in high in google.com. At least I have correct geo targetting for my .co.uk domain (it ranks high in google.co.uk but not that good in google.com).
Thanks for the advice....it ranks well in google.com for "KEYWORD Canada"....but doesn't rank well in google.ca for just "KEYWORD", do you think I should take out the "Canada" part of the keyword phrase on "on page seo" or leave it in. I'm thinking take it out b/c everybody using .ca already knows it's in Canada and dosen't add that element in there.
if the domain is .ca, then there is no need to set any targeted geo in webmaster tool. by default, webmaster tool will show canada as targeted geo unless the site owner manually overrides it. @OP, you are right about most Canadians using google.ca. infact, whenever someone from canada enters google.com in the adress location, browser will automatically redirect the visitor to google.ca version. i do not know any Canadian (other than me) who searches google.com. regarding ranking on google.ca, you just need to get more backlinks form .ca domians or sites running on canadian IPs which will help you rank well on Google Canada.
