Video blogs are not much different from normal blogs to run, in fact I find it much easier as videos are easier to create than plugging away at the keyboard for hours and they are always perceived as more valuable than just text - so it is a win win! Not to mention that videos give you a whole new avenue to get massive traffic to your blog with!
It's true that videos are taking over the net, videos are a lot easier for us as you don't need to read them, they can convey much more information (if a picture can say a thousand words then a video can say much more!), they give much better meaning to your words with inflections and gestures, and they are a lot more fun to watch and to make!
Wouldn't it be harder to get some good on-page SEO if there is no text? Or do you provide transcripts?
Video is an excellent medium for communicating as long as they are concise and not to long. The only ones I don't care for are the ones that you can't fast forward on. Seems to be a trend recently. Regards
As a general rule of thumb you want 200 words of unique content on the page along with your video, just to show Google that you have unique content. They are getting better at recognizing and processing videos - but to be on the safe side then just add in some information about the content to bulk the page out.
lol then whats the point in the video if you have 200 words to talk about the video lol I dont see the point, also GOOGLE aint everything if you have a video blog and it has brilliant videos updated daily you have returning visitors without GOOGLE!
I don't know how I feel about blogs that are 100% video. I still prefer to read blogs, but I do enjoy watching a video every now and then. I think it's better to have only special topics that are discussed using a video format and then have the rest of the blog being actual content, that's just my opinion though. It doesn't matter if the blog is mainly video or text, as long as the information being presented is unique and interesting it shouldn't matter what form the information comes in then.
Everything gomarketeer has posted, has been taken from an ebook posted at freshstartinternetreview.com Just do a google search for "As a general rule of thumb you want 200 words of unique content on the page along with your video" - be sure to include the quotes. gomarketeer - do you have permission to repost copyright protected material? Honestly i meet video blogs verey rarely...i can remember 2-3... i think that when you look at smth information become simplier then i think that video blogs have bright future)
In my opinion this trend will become stronger. At the moment most people are trained to read most of the blog content but maybe they acclimatize more to video content in the future.
Youtube is home to countless amounts of potential traffic. If your videos are effective then I bet you can get quite a bit more traffic.
Just to reply -Starcaller, yes I own the Rights. Anything that will help getting useful information across will be used. Further to the comments, Video is a tool to make sure that you get your message across while using more senses than just your eyes. You can have only Video on your Blog or you can combine the traditional blog with video clips. Don't you think it is helpful to make the learning proses easier? In the end it is up to the individual to decide what methods is best.
Just have a look at all the new technology being introduced daily, it is inevitable that Vlogging will become the norm rather than the exception. Take the video capability for the web and of I-Pads, I-Phones etc, it has increased dramatically with the bandwidth required for video getting smaller and smaller which will allow more videos being used, and you can clearly see the trend. Even if you want to send a private message to friends and family, it will be better to send a Video rather that a text or message.
