I can't figure this out at all...............

I'm not complaining but when i go to google.co.uk and type in "private party" our site comes up 3rd! the site itself is in a terrible state and is due for redesign in the next 6 weeks.

the page has not been optimized and there are no backlinks at all.

this has got me completely confused as to how it could have happened. (I'll live with it for the time being though )

You actually do have some pretty impressive backlinks if you check Yahoo (wikipedia, dmoz) and that page is pr 4. Google will be taking into account these backlinks but they don't export their list of backlinks for a while and they never show all of the backlinks even when they do export them.

 

Looks like the page isn't in bad shape at all... You've got a good title and header tags as well as some good keyword density.

It could be some short term luck since you've got no backlinks.

Maybe start building the backlinks and try to maintain..

The other guys are right, that page has quite a few others linking to it, internal and external links

And as the site itself is old with a good page strenght the rest is probably down to trustrank.

 

Was this an expired domain? Did someone else own it before you? That may be where the backlinks and PR are coming from.

Thanks for biggin us up Matt, i checked the backlinks in Yahoo and they are mostly if not all internal. i can't find any external links anywhere thought, very strange

Feel free to come down to Vinopolis again soon Matt.

 

Internal links can work just as well as external ones if your page strength is strong (which yours is) which shows the importance of a good internal link structure. You can improve on your rankings by concentrating on getting more external links from similar sites (wine/tourist attractions/party planning)

yer we still got Bombay Sapphire thats still going strong.

we are putting in a new Champagne bar as well which will be part of the wine tour. think that opens in October sometime but not sure yet.
