United States Heading towards a Depression?

I wasn't promoting Julian's allegations. MiA's financial status is not really in question. He could be pulling down a cool million a year, or living on welfare (though I doubt the latter is true). What I was commenting on was Julian, a self proclaimed Marxist, trying to denigrate someone based on financial status. First he calls you poor, then says you are a piece of sh*t because you are poor. He sounds more like a guy who uses financial status as his only measurement of a person than a marxist. What a hypocrite.

Never heard of Eminem? We have more trailer park millionaires than you can imagine in this country.

 

Definitely not.

1. Everyone starts somewhere.
2. Wealth is something that some people work towards. There's no shame in working towards a completely different goal, as long as you do it with integrity. Problems only arise when people seek the fruit of wealth without putting forth the labor to plant the trees.

I remember when I was attending a university and working a janitorial job on the campus. I was involved in student government and one of the student senators saw me cleaning the glass doors of the student center. He was the son of wealthy liberals from the Pacific northwest. He was shocked. He said "Will; aren't you ashamed to be seen here, working like a common laborer?" I said "Of course not. This is honest work and I am proud to be doing it." He really didn't see the value of productive contribution through earning a living. He only saw the benefits of trying to live off the wealth built by the productive classes.

 

I don´t call sitting in a trailer park drinking beer, collecting welfare and waiting to win the prowerball starting somewhere but other than that you are right and people should work for their goals.

I didn´t know high school dropouts can go to university, which university accepts students without high school diploma? Were you taking artistic liberty and added the part about studying in the university just to make it more interesting story than just working as janitor?

I don't know what you mean by "common social knowledge". I think that you made up that phrase. What is the source of this "common social knowledge"? Is it a convenient phrase you made up in the hopes of inventing credibility where you have none?

But let me directly address your above statement - see, I've come directly from the corporate world.

I worked for a company with over 15,000 employees. I was a marketing manager. Now, large corporations are like high school. That would be easy to accept because social dynamics are the same anywhere. Maybe somewhere there is a society where everyone behaves in a mature, responsible manner and everyone is treated with respect. If that society exists, it isn't on this planet.

Within three years I was making a six figure salary and I did it based on three, and only three, princples. You are going to think I'm making this up but I'd like to hear earlperl's opinion on this.

These are my three principles:
1. Always do what you say you are going to do
2. If you can't meet the customer's schedule for a deliverable, tell them as soon as you know for sure.
3. Reward loyalty

Look, most people don't mature - they just grow taller. Most people behave like adult children. They say they will do something, then don't do it, then make lame excuses like a teenager excusing late homework. If you are completely responsible for something, then do what you say you are going to do, no self-excuses. Most people don't do this. Like gworld, they blame others for their own failures and point fingers rather than take personal responsibility for their own lame behavior. Just look at gworld - to him, it's always someone else's fault and someone else's responsibility. And, if someone is down, gworld will kick them. That is a loser's behavior.

I mean, read this:

gworld writes at a 4th grade level, and that's doing a disservice to 4th graders. Is this the writing of someone you would trust? Or if you absolutely had to rely on gworld, would you consider him a pathetic liar? There is no integrity, absolutely noting to trust in him. Success and Integrity have a writing style, and it's not in gworld's writing. He rants like a frustrated loser with a focus on poverty. His words have no focus or intent.

As far as #2, customer is waiting for a deliverable. Deadline passes, no deliverable. Customer calls the 30-something-year-old executive that owes him the work and gets voicemail for three days. He finally speaks to the executive who mumbles out that the work will be one month late. This happens all the time.

I'll call my customer two weeks in advance and tell them we're going to be a month late. Customer is shocked and awed that I gave them advance notice. They move their schedule back a month and make a note to give me more business because I can be trusted.

And loyalty - hey, that's how you make friends. Shit happens, and when someone stands up for me I remember it.

Most people are children. Do these things and be successful.

But, if you really want to make the big $$$, you have to slip out the back door of the corporate world and innovate, innovate, innovate. Make something new. That's how to become a millionaire in less than a year.

There's also a fourth principle - give back to others. That's why I wrote this post.

 

The 4th principal of your "success"must be lie, lie and more lie. I can promise you that I am more successful than you will ever be and I don´t kick anyone who is down. The only people that I kick is the neo-con losers who live in their trailer park and hope to win the powerball one day while being a big mouth hateful Republican and the only reason that I do that is because I hope to wake them up from their dream so they can join the rest of us in real world.

 

If it is a new phrase... no big deal. Common social knowledge is similar to saying it is "culture" . I will answer you on that one since I would like to be "sociable", but I would rather see ( as I believe you said ) adults act like adults. I would like to interject when I can about the TOPIC of this thread... the US and a depression. I believe it is a done deal. Since you have corporate experience, you know that if a corporation was operated like the economy of the USA, it would have already been declared insolvent and dismantled by the bank. But... instead they talk about things like "buying debt" ?? I am not interested enough to want to study that, but it just sounds wrong.


Anyway, the economy is not a two-party problem. Both sides get money from the same people... therefore the money trail leads higher than D or R

I've worked with large companies where talented people could rise quickly, and with large companies where time in position was an official requirement for promotion. I even worked with one large company which used a system of temporary promotions -- after serving their time in management people cycled back into individual contributor roles.

"Time in position" companies do appear to be "common social knowledge" in many areas of the globe, but they don't tend to perform well unless supported by taxpayer funding or a government-backed monopoly.

One of the advantages of telling the truth is how stress-free it makes your life.
