I think press release and social bookmarking is the best way for indexing your site in search engines.
Suggesting can take ages, just post your website url on a website such as Digg.com then it is just a mater of minutes instead of weeks.
After submitting your sitemap and other web work , you must try top social bookmarking and tweeter . They can give you incident exposer and your site will also get indexed easily ..
Your signature link right here, ping the post and your site will be indexed. Digg is also another option, why not do both
If you want your site indexed fast then just get a few backlinks from highly trusted sites. These highly trusted sites gets crawled by the search engines very often so if your link is up there one of of these sites the they will find it, go to your site and voila your site will be indexed. You can determine if a site is highly trusted from looking at the their PageRank. On a side note PageRank doesn't mean that you are in the top for great keywords it just tells you about a sites "trust value". I hope this helps.

Getting backlinks is huge. this forum actually allows you to put your websites link in your signature, so that is a big help too. I didn't know about Digg, thanks for that feedback, I will register there now!
