Hi guys, I am in web business for a year and I have not seen any decent profits. I mean in the whole year I have made $700 or so. At the same time I have spent huge amount of time on it and probably if I was doing something else (like working in the restaurant) I would do so much more. Except time I have also spent about 3,000 on everything - domains, software, advertising. I realize I did not know what I was doing first 6 months. So I am interested to know how did you came to making xxx a month, did you invest a lot of money, time, etc Are response highly appreciated
It depends on what you are trying to do, what you're selling etc. Your site is not very salesy, which in my mind is good for a website and what it's all about, but not so good for making money. I would recommend you do some "split testing" for different formats, you may find that putting some of the Amazon stuff nearer the top works better for you. You could also try out Google's Adsense and see if that works. A lot of people on the net pretend they're raking the cash in but infact they're not, most websites don't make a lot of money. Those that do are generally one's that have full time staff working on them. If you run your website as a hobby, then it'll never be anything more than that. Anyway, my website is in it's 3rd facelift... it's taken me around 2 years to start seeing results from internet traffic, but now from just 4000 visitors a month I can turn over £3000 from sales directly from my website... and it's only a PR2. Basically I had nothing for 18 months, then boom... something changed, I've no idea what, because i hadn't changed anything, but suddenly sales started flooding in. Patience is the key, and so is being smart about what you do. Don't try any of these "get rich quick" schemes as they don't work... just try out lots of different things until you find one that works. You've got a good website don't lose heart... you'll find that the rewards usually will be directly related to how much effort you put in... work 3-4 hours a day trying to make it better and you'll notice a huge difference. Just be patient Hope that helps. Colin Reproduction Art: www.aspectart.com
Whoa! Is this a typo? Do you mean, you sell £3000 worth of stuff in a month, of which you get a commission? Or you actually MAKE that much a month? Off of just over 100 visitors a day?
It really depends on if you hit that big niche site once or twice! One site can generate all your income. I have a large site that did very well last christmas, and that was the start of my "empire" One recommendation that I have, is spend your time wisely. If you can pay for content, then do that, so that you free up some time to do link building.
I agree with ScottFish, Online Business is very much similar to Conventional Businesses where in you have to know the right niche and target market first before you start your business. The only difference between Online and Conventional business is the Scope or Coverage of your market, where as with Online Business you can target Global Market while as in Conventional you can only start locally. Traffic is always the main key to get good income in the Net. If you are doing 50,000 or more visitors per Month, you can most likely achieve your Return of Investment in less than 5 months. The usual steps in Online Business is: 1. Build a site 2. Generate Traffic and Search Engine Rankings 3. Improve your Site's features 4. Earn a lot of Money.
Don't give up Even if you are in a minority of one, the truth is still the truth. Successful entrepreneurs or netpreneurs find their inspiration in solutions they developed for their own real life problems. They typically encounter a problem, solve it for themselves, and then conclude that ''if I needed this, other people probably do as well.''
Hmmm, because I had no money to invest, I just bought the cheapest simplest web hosting I could find, and spent no other money at all. I've done ok out of it ($xxx per month) because all my income is profit, if you don't include all the evenings I worked on it. It sounds like you've actually lost money on the whole thing, which is a real shame. I would recommend that you don't spend any more money, and try to get something like AdSense bringing in a few hundred each month. It's not impossible, especially with the knowledge you've gained. Once it's bringing in a decent amount, then think about more advertising etc. I'd hate you to lose any more money.
No it's not a typo. If you do your research and get into a niche which not many people are into (generally places where you have to work hard to get any results) then I'm sure better results are possible. The £3000 a month is turnover, profit is around 50% of that, but still that's not bad. My items are quite expensive so I just need to sell around 15 pieces to hit the target. Revenue is still going up every month too. The other's are correct in that you must see this as an actual phsyical business... if this was your shop on the high street what would you do differently? It's not all about huge traffic, spamming, or dodgy sales techniques... treat customers like you would want to be treated when you walked into a football shop. Go to a few in your area and see what they do, you'd be suprised at how well it will translate across to your website. Make sure you're doing something you enjoy, and then stick at it. Persistence (with some intelligent thinking thrown in) will get you a long way.
The biggest truth out there is that it takes money to make money. I went the cheap route at first, with no good results. It was only when I really started spending a LOT of money that I started making money...
I too am interested in this topic. Currently, I make less than 1000/month and I'd want go over that by December.
