Image ads v. Text ads with adsense. a couple of questions for you.

I just got done reading a few articles on image v. text adsense ads and would like to know how you guys feel about image ads.

I did a little study on one of my sites and switched it over to image ads for 1 week. In that week I found that my ctr and ppc went down. Why would my pay per click go down if 1 image ad is the same size as 4 text ads? isn't the company getting a lot of face time for free? Also my click through ratio dropped due to the fact that people have trained their eye to ignore banner ads.

What are your experience with image ads?

I just combined mine with image ads. I will wait for a week and see how it goes. I think it is better to use both. Well we'll see.

For me, i use default setting which will show text & img. Beside CTR, how about the revenue? Did img ad will get pay higher, since it only show 1 ads. in a box.

Believe it or not banners are actually cheaper then just a regular text link. You are more likely to click on the text link then a banner. That is what I have found out from my expierience, not sure if this is how it always is though. It caught me off guard when I tried this expierment.

Really? Then, will consider to focus on text rather tan img. It may possible as well, since people seldom will buy img in adwords, google may sell it cheaper. But in other had, may try to buy img in adwords. Did anyone try it before?

It was to my suprise that the image ads payed a lot less than the text ads. right now i am averaging around .30 a click with text ads(higher some days than others of course). I found that not only did people click on the image ads a lot less but the pay averaged around .10 cents a click or so.

Really suprised me considering the image ad takes up an entire block of ads.

Yeah, image ads pay a LOT less. I got like 3-5 cents with image ads, compared to my 20-30 cents with text ads.

On some of my pages I am running an image skyscraper and a text leaderboard. The text leaderboard gets 4 times as many clicks as the skyscraper. Next I'll try changing the skyscraper to text as well, and see if the income goes up.

BTW it's not surprising that image ads are worse than text. Ask anyone here and they will tell you that blending your ads to fit in with the rest of the site makes them get clicked more. How are you going to blend in a giant animated image skyscraper?????!?!?!?!?

Is it against TOS to change the ad-type in your HTML code, from text+image to just text? ...or do i have to login and regenerate the code?

Cornetto........ I understand that the image ads get clicked less. That isn't what suprised me. what suprised me is that the image ads are 4 times bigger and I was getting 4 times less pay from each click. But I learned my lesson and will stick to the text ads. :)

Yes, it's against TOS. Just log in and get a new code.

And for my money, the text ads are much, much better. I think internet surfers have become virtually banner-blind.

I couldn't agree more! I think banners are glazed over without the user noticing what the ad is offering. A certain word can catch someone's eye and encourage them to take two seconds to finish reading, with interest and a click following.

One way or the other, I do far better with text ads then image.

Image ads are worth less $ because internet users are so used to them that they have gotten to a point where they can naturally ignore them to an extent. That's what I think...

i tried switcing over to image ads only as they integrated really well with my website, but due to the lack of images you end up showing image ads that give very little in return. So now im back to image+text ads.
