Lockpicking skill +1 level

For some reason I thought that lockpicking and other burglary traits were pretty bad ass to me since I was just a wee lad. So 2 days ago I hopped on youtube and looked at some videos. With a bobby pin and a pen clip I had the best tools McGuyver ever had. I figured if it's good enough for him, It's good enough for me.

When I decide I want to do something like pick a lock, I'm the type of person that will do it until I've finished the job. I'll pick in traffic, pick during dinner, pick before bed and pick on the toilet (you'll see)

Sitting at a mcdonalds finishing my hideous meal, my guts were massively irritated with me. With a sudden stomach growl that made my butthole pucker I literally RAN to the bathroom. Did a quick stall check for cleanliness, lockability, handicap friendly (I'm not handicapped I just like the extra leg room.), toilet paper, I happily had a seat.

I was going to be there a while so I pulled out my masterlock and make shift lock pick kit that I use for practice and went to work when I saw that there was a FRESH toilet paper roll sadly locked behind a metal bracket. How could I knowingly wipe with a used roll when there is a new one waiting for me to grab it?

I put my masterlock down and starting shoving my bobby pin in the little lock. after 6 seconds I got it open!

I was so excited I almost sprang out of my seat right there! For the rest of the day I felt like James Bond.

you probably don't care, I wouldn't, I just felt like writing how I scratched #65 off my bucket list.

    <STRIKE>#65. Learn to pick a lock</STRIKE>

    Here are some pics:

After the McDonalds victory, I went at the masterlock all day. I finally got it that night. after 24 hours of picking and learning I can pick a masterlock in under 90 seconds.

Too Long/Didn't Read: Lock Picked mcdonalds toilet paper security system. Felt like James bond. Also don't use masterlocks. Very easy to pick once you know how.

I personally preferred Bash skill as I don't have enough DEX required for most lock picking needs...

That is kind of funny. Like anything I guess once you know the tricks it's probably easier than we think. I watched something to do with locks a while back. It was called bump or bumping or something. The guy could open just about any lock in a couple of seconds. The bump forced the tumblers open with a couple of whacks. I tried it on a door lock at home. Sure enough with a little practice I could open it in a couple of seconds. You might look it up sometime if you are interested in that kind of stuff. Like I said I forget the exact term but I am fairly sure it was bump or bumping.

    Nice one :)
I learnt how to pick locks (pin tumblers and padlocks) a couple of years ago. It's good fun, and is a skill that comes in handy. It's time I got back into it.

Useful links for anyone interested in learning how to pick locks:

Yeah, it's called bumping. And it's a pretty awful way of opening a lock :p

So what types of situations require you to pick locks, outside of stealing things from people? I must admit I'm intrigued by the lockpickng ability too, but I don't think there is any need for me to learn.

    > Obvious #1 : Locking yourself out of your house/apartment/hotel room/holiday house and not wanting to pay a locksmith call out fee
    > Helping friends who have locked themselves out (YOU become the after hours "locksmith" and can charge/exchange services accordingly)
    > Being accidentally locked IN after hours - carparks, universities, office buildings
    > The desire to know how stuff works
    > It's fun.

Just because you can open a lock doesn't mean you're going to steal what's behind it. Opening the lock is the prize. :)

I didn't want to learn lockpicking for anything malicious. I just wanted to learn to lock pick. Not to be super proffecient at it to the point where i can lick a lock without anybody knowing. I can now walk around and say "i can pick a lock" It was on my bucket list.

Not everything on my bucket list makes any sense. I just finished another one check it out. It makes even less sense.
