If I wanted to start a fansite about a certain car, is this against Google's TOS?

I ask this because, the car and brand is trademarked. Is this a violation of their TOS?

    Thanks for the reply. :D

What about lyrics? Does anyone know?

Technically lyrics are copywritten content. Is this against their rules?

As long as you aren't copying somebody elses copyrighted materials everything should be fine.

Well, that's where I don't know where you draw the line.

    I didn't make the car.

    I didn't write the lyrics.

So am I breaking the rules?

Is a lyric site against the rules?

Or a car site about a specific car?

It's all in the specifics, but you haven't given us any...

    What's a "car site?"

Do you mean you're going to write your own content about a specific car? If so, then that shouldn't be any problem.

Lyrics are a different matter entirely, because the only thing I can imagine doing with lyrics is publishing them, and that means you're re-publishing someone else's work, which is more than likely a violation of coyright law...

You could also get into trouble if you use someone else's trademark in your domain name, but there's nothing illegal about writing about someone else's product, whether it's a car or a pair of tennis shoes :)

I see so many lyric sites out there, I wonder how they are able to get advertisers.

I wanted to start a site about my favorite band, but I am second guessing it now.

When I say "car site" I simply mean a site that includes information and pictures of a specific car model, such as a Honda Civic or some other random car.

Yeah, but once again you aren't giving us much information here – do you mean information and photos that you would be lifting from another site, or do you mean original content?

It's all about original content. If you take other people's content you're likely to get yourself into trouble, but if you create your own then you are good to go!

    :)

yeah, one of my main sites is oasis-news and its all about the band oasis so i wouldn't see a problem with a car site. I had one about the mercury milan car that didn't do anything and they didn't seem to mind that either.

No I would write my own reviews, opinions, and photos.

    I don't steal content.

But I am worried because a certain car company is a trademark, that may be a violation of their TOS. But what about things like the logo of the car company? Is this against the rules? Can I not show the logo anywhere on the site? Or would the only way to get around it would be to show a PHOTO of the logo taken from an actual car?

I know it's not illegal, because it's freedom of speech in the US, but Google has their own rules.

It's a silly question I know, but considering how quickly Google bans people, I want to be careful.

Send google adsense support an e-mail. Always best to check with them if you're in doubt.

On a side note, I don't think you can put a company's logo on your website and call it free speech. I would contact the car company in question and see what their terms are for using their trademarks etc.

Car sites are okay.. Lyrics may or mau not be. Better ask adsense, and be specific about the nature of your site.

Ontop of what has been said.....

The Ford Mustang is tradmarked and if you go make a copy of the Ford Mustang car and try and sell it you are in for a big law suit however to write up something(yourself) or have someone write something and give you the rights about the Ford Mustang is not going to be illegal.
As long as you write the content and it is about a certain car it will be fine.
