i have a dedicated server for my site. i am creating a second site and am not sure if i should put it on the same server or pay additional for virtual web hosting. does G consider server ips in its algorithm?
Put it on the same server. G dont care about the server at all, if they care they care about IP, get a dedicated IP if you worry, but there are servers/IPs with thousands of sites on and some are bound to have the same theme, G dont penalise them. If the sites are duplicates on the other hand...
Only if they have the same content too, you can use the same theme but not the same content, that's only what father Google care about .
Not this shhhhhh... again.. DUPLICATE CONTENT will surely hurt your site in G as told again and again.... lol
There is no problem with putting it on the same server, however, Google will discount any crosslinking of those sites.
They don't always discount crosslinking, I gave another one of my sites a link and that one link gave it a PR 4.
Its told again and again. and noobs reads this when its told again and again, so please get the h*ll out if you dont have anything to contribute.
PR, in itself, is irrelevant for ranking purposes. A single link from a PR5 site can make a site a PR4 if it is the only outgoing link. Google won't factor the backlink in for purposes of SERPS. Google assumes links are the same class "C" share common ownership and aren't considered a "vote" for another site. As a registrar, they also can check ownership of the domains (as discussed in their patent.)
Hey genius, have you never been a noob for a long days ago huh? For your question, if you have sites with same theme are hosting in the same server but contents are different, it's fine for G. But if you crosslink between them G. may see that's a spam. (if all those sites have same class C ip range) That's why seochat have a class C checker tools for you.
Many would claim that Google see it as spam only if the sites are unrelated. Like a loan site and a horse site. If one site is about how to put shoes on a horse and the other one is about how to ride the horse, then crosslinking should be fine and even helpful.
Ive tried it.. I put "nearly" the same content on a new IP and was punished hard.. Site A (original) dropped to PR 3 Site B (dublicate) dropped to PR 2 with no traffic.. I should have better saved money I spent on a new server..
the content will be different, but the industry is identical. i think i will put the second site on my server (possibly do a one way link to the original site at a future date). thanks for the tips everyone. my site is my livlihood and i cant afford to drop in the rankings or else i would have to lay off serveral employees.
Do they (pageranks) return normal when you removed the link? Or there is no way to recover from that situation?
