Hey guys, I just got an infraction from a mod, not sure who, for posting "sent you a PM" in a link sales thread. I've been doing this for as long as i've been a member, as do many other members in the link sales threads. Is this no longer allowed? I just want to confirm this because it seems unusual. Thanks
Why should you post "sent you a PM" ? The receiver will see that he have a PM. How stupid do you think people are ?
There is a very long thread on the subject. It is now being enforced as a useless thread bump. I don't have the link up but look in the solicitations forum. It is a sticky at the top. The goal is to make threads posts have some value. Since DP id most generous with the PM allowance, I feel like it is a good move.
It's been discussed before, but the short version is that there is SO much activity in places like the marketplace that we were seeing a very high percentage of all posts as "useless"... Things like, "Thanks PM sent", etc... Ultimately that has no real value to people reading a thread since the person knows you sent a PM because they got it. When it was small, it was no big deal, but now we are running into the problem where if 25% of the posts are those type of messages, you get 1,500 of those posts/day. In the end, just trying to keep useful posts, while drop posts that really have no useful content to anyone.
Well, if someone else got banned, doesn't that mean we can too? Go ban the other people that are dedicated members as well...
Well, seriously. It is the same as posting in General Chat, unnecessary. PM people to talk to them like that pfft
I think it may be a language thing. I am sure you do a much better job with English than I could do with your language. An infraction means you were told you did something wrong. You have to get several of them (I don't really know how many) before you get banned. You are a member with 81 posts and green rep. One infraction would be no big deal to you. Now if you do something really bad you could be out of here tonight. Relax, enjoy the forum, read the FAQ if you haven't and life will be good.
Fair enough, i just did it to see at a glance which "want to buy" threads i had already responded to. Is there any way to still do this without posting these types of no longer allowed messages?
Oh my, my. The never ending "someone infracted me" As stated above, the thread about "thanks pm sent" is somewhere out there, pinned at a links-related section
Maybe to stop these YAIT threads from showing up all the time, if the OP of a YAIT thread got an infraction for starting the YAIT thread, it could cut down on these? Just my thought for this evening while I watch Eureka.
Yes there is. And don't feel bad about not knowing it. I only learned it myself about a week ago. Before that I some times I tried to think of something to post just so I would be able to search my user name and find the thread again. Click on the thread button and subscribe to the thread. Anytime a new post is made it will show in your control panel. Used in conjunction with view new threads only it will greatly reduce the time you spend reading the headers. Anything you have replied to that has a new post will appear in your subscribed. Anything you have subscribed to without a post that has a new reply will be there. Everything else held no interest for you and the only thing left to do is view the new threads. It makes 900 posts a day a lot more enjoyable to follow.
