Hi, I'm interested at having a go at earning money with Amazon Affiliates. The majority of people here/talking about the affiliates program(s) here seem to be from America (or I assume so, working in dollars) so I was wondering... being an citizen of England, can I still earn commission from sales from any country's equivalent amazon site? I.e. If I earn commission on amazon.com would I get a cheque sent from America or within the UK (Is it all the same big company). I just wondered, since obviously I would do better working with US affiliates since the US has a much larger population than the UK. Thanks in advance.
You have to sign up for each one (.co.uk .com .ca etc) that you want to use and use the relevant affiliate links. Each amazon country you join with send you separate payments.
yep what he said, I'd recommend sticking with the USA because of their large selection and client base.
Thanks for the info - so there is no restriction in place for USA residents or anything, I can sign up to as many as I like and they'll send payments oversea's?
There is no restriction as to which Amazon sites you are allowed to join. If the majority of your traffic is from the US, it makes sense to promote products from the US site. To answer your initial question: yes, they will send you cheques to your UK address. I know a few people who receive their cheques from Amazon.com. So, that shouldn't be a problem. But make sure you register on the Amazon.com associate site and use the relevant associate tag to get commission on any sales. Good luck
Thanks, all sorted. Shame they aren't all one big site/operation really, would yield better revenue for us affiliates rather than targetting a single coutry. Thanks.
Hello, how much did you earn from being a member of Amazon affiliate program? is it worth being there? Thanks.
Be aware - they charge a 'cheque processing fee' of $15 per $100 cheque. You can also be paid in Amazon gift certificates, but they can only be used on Amazon US. It is possible to sell these quite easily on eBay and the fees are unlikely to be as high as $15 per $100.
I think you misunderstand. There is no $15 fee for using 'direct deposit', which is only available to US residents. Users outside the US require a cheque to be sent, for which there is a $15 administration fee. That is all that link says, and that's what I said above.
You are wrong, there's no fees for processing cheques for Affiliates outside the US. You should read the payment details again incase you misread it. I receive my cheques every month without any fees.
Ah thanks. I understand now - sorry for the confusion. They waive the fee because it's the only option available to you. I'm sure it would become clearer if I had ever received payment from Amazon.com. I get most of my earnings from Amazon.co.uk because of how my website is set up and targetted.
Yeah - it's difficult to target both the US and UK with some niches (such as mine) without things looking spammy. It's also impossible to use in-post content that links to both without causing lots of confusion or again putting people off. I just wish they had geotargetting options, it would really really help.
For my UK amazon sites, I place links to either Amazon US directly or an equivalent Amazon site using the maxmind geolocation database. It takes a bit of coding and tricky if your not used to that stuff, but it is worth it and I saw a good increase in cross sales. I do well in Amazon UK but if your traffic is from USA already then obviously don't waste it. Keep in mind as well that Amazon UK has a cap of $7 on every product. Here is a good tip for UK affiliates earning money from Amazon USA. Sign up for a Citibank US account - it is free and is technically a US bank account. I send them my Amazon Cheques by post and I am charged nothing for paying them in. I have linked this account to Paypal so I can pay for things in US dollars, meaning I never have to convert it, and I also use it when I am in the US. Any other money I transfer to my UK bank for a smal fee.
Thanks for that. I'll check out the maxmind geolocation thing you mentioned. Most of my traffic that is well targetted is from the UK at the moment, but my US traffic is growing all the time and like you said I don't want to waste it. The £7 cap is also a bit of an issue due to the price of the products I sell.
No problem. I still do well on Amazon UK but you have to pick your product niches - i.e. don't bother selling products worth £xxxx
I came across this WordPress plugin using the MaxMind database (which I will update every month as new data is available) and got it installed over the weekend. I have managed to geo-target some 'shopping' pages on my website as well as specific product-links within my posts. This has brought me my first ever sale on Amazon US (and infact several more afterwards) and has really opened up my website to the US market. I very much agree that targetting the £1000+ products on Amazon UK is futile - the items I target are generally £100-£300 which seems to be working well for me.
Came across this thread while searching for something completely different. I have written a ebook about making cash from amazon - had a UK affiliate account for years and made pennies, used plugins and a great deal of SEO skills - and make a wopping £0.71p. Well stumbled across away that turned pennies into hundreds, I wrote simple PHP script and used some other methods. Now I want to sell this book but dont want every one and there granny using this method - who knows they may already be doing it. If anyone wants more details email me - judosales@live.co.uk
