    Hiroshima Child

I come and stand at every door
But none can hear my silent tread
I knock and yet remain unseen
For I am dead for I am dead

I'm only seven though I died
    In Hiroshima long ago
I'm seven now as I was then
When children die they do not grow

My hair was scorched by swirling flame
My eyes grew dim my eyes grew blind
Death came and turned my bones to dust
And that was scattered by the wind

I need no fruit I need no rice
I need no sweets nor even bread
I ask for nothing for myself
For I am dead for I am dead

All that I need is that for peace
You fight today you fight today
So that the children of this world
Can live and grow and laugh and play

    by Nazim Hikmet

It was a terrible/tragic event. The poem made it a bit comical. A real kid is writing the poem, right? :)

Actually, I'm PRO PEACE... Any life is precious...

Interesting fact is the U.S wasn't even at war before the Pearl Harbor attack.

I guess we could have just given them a "TIME OUT"....

No I don't. While I agree that some positive outcome did come out of it, it can't be used to justify mass murder and state terrorism.

The poem is a good one in its original language it is about the translation.(In the orijinal one the poet tells his sadness for the children of Hiroshima and he tells they 'll never grow and live their childhood and symbolises this with eating candy.)

We can not compare Pearl Harbor with Hiroshima and Nagazaki cause (Although Pearl Harbor attack is not something we can accept and wish , Pearl Harbor is a military base).
If we need to compare them with something , Hiroshima and Nagazaki is something like a large scale 9/11 attack , a mass killing by using weapons of mass destruction (WMD)

Though nothing is going to justify American acts of bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki, if you're going to blame someone, blame the Chinese and British as well.

The decision to bomb the two Japanese cities was not unilateral, it was approved by the Chinese and British as well; this is not that well documented and the event is mostly considered as an American act of aggression.

The Japanese were not saints either - ever heard of the Rape of Nanking?

Now the question is - why would the British approve the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki if Britain was in no way threatened by Japanese incursions?

The only answer I could find was, to protect their selfish interests in the crown-colonies in Asia. The British have been more trouble than help to anyone.

I think both of American and Japanese governments were blame for that disaster, maybe Japanese more.

hope it was last and for ever, never happen again.

No, there is a difference between soldiers fighting each other on the fronts with a few unfortunate civilian casualties occurring in the process and intentional targeting of innocent civilians in huge numbers to achieve a psychological effect.

The later is called barbarianism, mass murder, state terrorism.

You mean like the bombing of London in WWII? Or the bombing of various cities in Germany? Or the launching of Scud missiles indiscriminately into Saudi Arabia? Or the raping and pillaging of Kuwait by Iraq? Or the enslavement of the Chinese by the Japanese where millions of people died as slave labor in internment camps?

The A-bomb should never have been constructed in the first place.

Hiroshima was targeted as having a military base, just a little overkill - Just as many civilians were killed in the firebombing of Tokyo where the civilians were targeted for the many small industries throughout the city used for their war effort.

Ending the war early did save more lives than would have been lost with a conventional conclusion.

It also preempted the Soviet Union from invading Japan from the north and having a partition the same as Germany / Europe.
