Gettnig a site listed, getting a response from DMOZ editors or even applying to be 1 is almost impossible these days. Ive heard tht Google Directory uses DMOZ but I do not know if that is still true?
it is still true, try visiting this: http://www.google.com/dirhp when you submit a site its still redirecting to dmoz..
The entire internet is a directory of sorts... So yes, Google do sample others. As long as the links you get are findable, followed, relevant and trustworthy, they will help. Your site will not be penalized if its not in DMOZ, so don't worry about it... Submit your site once, then forget about it and concentrate on adding content your uses find valuable... Natural links will come in time. Cheers James
Yeah, that is true. Though I am aware of the fact that getting links approved by dmoz is impossible. However, there's nothing bad in trying. So I still submitted my site for acceptance. Reading and following instruction can help me enjoy my object soon I guess. Dmoz is not selfish to accept links in proper format and requested in proper category.
Everyone above already answered and I would like to say my own opinion about DMOZ. I am wondering if Google should get rid and not use DMOZ as their web directory database, thus not an influence for website ranking either. DMOZ used to be a best one so far but I have seen no improvement quite a very long time, not even a bit. I have assumed about their corrupted from the root as well. Most of DMOZ editor are ethic enough but I bet some of them can still be bribed from webmaster to get their website lives in DMOZ. If so, what is a good of DMOZ? Where is the standard that they are so proud?
DMOZ has made listing on it so much tougher... people have long given up trying to list on it. It would be interesting to know if dmoz listing does actually help in your serps and does it have far greater effect than any other back links! Regards, RightMan
