I am having nearly 150 posts in a popular forum site.

Now if i put a signature over there, then can i expect 150 backlinks for my website from that forum

I think links from these public domains are nofollow so how effective they are in terms of Google SERP ranking.

Nofollow links wont help you much - but if the forum has a related niche, those signature links can get you more traffic and thereby more sales or conversions. meanwhile there are forums offering dofollow signatures too.

So, you're asking where it is better to spam... forums or blogs?
    The answer is 'don't spam'.

You can't except 150 back link if you have 150 forum post. Google does not consider each link. It depend upon the content of your post.

I was also agree with you view as if one can have backlinks for each posts then forum posting will be the only way to get easy backlinks.

You have suggested about the content of the post. Does that means, more the post will be in a thread more will be the chances of listing those posts.

Again as per relevancy posts are more or less relevant to the thread. So can you put some light about the relevancy issue to getting backlinks for my posts.

Forum posting has very low efficiency as far as SEO is concerned. Each of these pages have 100s of signature links. What forum posts are good at is getting laser targeted traffic for your site.

I think though forum posting are far less effective but dosent matter its follow or no follow, its giving a backlinks from your keywords, increasing your backlinks and thus in turn increasing your PR.
Also some no follow backlinks are necessary to show google that your not spamming machine, you need combination of follow and no follow backlinks.
try to post in forums using signature one way or the other it will help you.
if not in rankings might be in traffic which in turn again will boost your SERP slightly.

Forum commenting helps, Let me tell you one thing i am doing forum commenting just to to take participation in good & informative threads. If people like my comment the always check my website from my signature & i feel as many as clicks you will receive for any link the value will increase automatically. So i would suggest use forum commenting & blog commenting both & always share good suggestions when you participate in any thread.

I follow subscribe good threads for at-least one month & if any one else will comment then i defiantly going to read it & share my expertise as well.

So share valuable comments & increase value for your links & it will automatically increase value for your keywords.

    What Say?

From my experience, especially new sites do benefit from forum backlinking even if the posts are not related at all to your sites content. Just keep your anchor text relevant.

Of course, one should not depend on a single source for links and should get links from blogs, articles, web 2.0 properties, etc. as well. But forums do help.

Ya that's sure but still forum in leading by one step. In forum posting your can have instant link as soon as you post but in blog posting your comment needs approval

I do think forum posting is helpful for seo. But one shouldn't be posting just for increasing backlinks. I participate in only those discussion which I find relevant to the knowledge I've got.

Both are good if you can get PR-ed backlinks on the two.
