Let me be more specific with your blog post which referenced that Congress turned down health benefits for the people who were dealing with the attack of 9/11. The police, firemen, and citizens who braved the conditions to rescue folks, and are now suffering form dust inhalation.

Basically the Republican party voted against providing health benefits to these folks. These people were the heros of 9/11. In the midst of fear, unknown, devastation, etc. they risked their lives to save the lives of others. Many of them were public servants; police, firemen etc. Many non uniformed people jumped in to help.

Rob: you describe it as a crime against humanity. Its clearly a crime against regular Americans. Its a crime against the vision we try and promote of patriotism.

Why bother being a basic American citizen. The Republican party will simultaneously claim that you don't deserve the care of the country while simultaneously claim that wealthier people should not have to participate in America. Wealthy America: Keep your money. Don't return to a tax basis from 1999. Wealthy American's: Its all yours. And wealthy Americans: While you hold on to every last penny; Make sure we don't help the Americans who sacrificed on this horrendous day and days afterwards. Oh and by the way....that is the same party that willingly led us into the war against Iraq; a so-called war against terrorism (you know the terrorists who attacked on 9/11.). That war in Iraq cost over $1 trillion, cost over 4,000 American lives, ended up with 10,000's of thousands of injured soldiers, etc.

Rob: I may not agree with you on the Mosque situation but I agree with you on your blog post.

    Earl:

Thanks for the read, review, response, and moreover, thank you for being moved, as a citizen, to think ... even though we may disagree on some issues, it is still necessary for us to dialog, learn and grow.

Your comments may be best suited for a different thread so as not to confuse or take away from this discussion, but I'm happy to respond either way.

I called it a crime against humanity because I believe it goes against the very essence of being humane, especially to your own or those who have helped.

    Let me clarify/differentiate a bit:

The co-sponsors of the bill were both Democrat and Republican (even though its Republican original co-sponsor was a New Yorker, he later voted against his own bill) party members.

Democrats were stupid for allowing the 2/3 procedural vote for any reason, trying to stifle any potential amendments by their foes that might later embarrass them later in the year with their base voters; bullshit!

Republicans were stupid for trying to attach immigration laws or other amendments knowing it would potentially kill the bill; bullshit!

Hence, every damned one of them should be recalled, impeached or at the very least certainly NOT re-elected; time to clean house and show that WE Americans can run a common sense, democratic Republic and cut-short any aspiring politician at the gate. We need policy, not politics. When they come 'home' for the next break begging for bucks and votes do us all a favor - tell them to kiss it, we'll send Aunt Cathy to Congress - she can balance a checkbook, run a budget, prioritize family values, needs, and wants, and so many other common sense and necessary skills that the paid-for-politician cannot even begin to appreciate.

    [/end Rob's rant]

@ Rob (on side issue worthy of a different thread). yup. get Aunt Cathy in there. screw em all. We have a screwed up system.

on the OP: I'm pretty emotional about it. I love the beauty and wonder of the American system that expands human freedoms, unleashes opportunities and is a land of tolerance. This system and unfortunately very few others are beacons of freedom in a tough world. But this Mosque issue and to me the underlying issue of a population, a racial segment, a religeous entity, and various nations that have empowered and enabled fundamentalist Islamic terrorists to wreak havoc on the world...and on themselves....needs to change their approach. Without that we are all potential victems. With that in mind, IMHO, I just can't tolerate the idea of a mosque near ground zero.

    Time Mag on the isssue:

The last legal hurdle to the proposed Islamic center near the site of the World Trade Center has been removed, but ignorance, bigotry and politics are more formidable obstacles. … Criticism spans the gamut, from the ill-informed anguish of those who mistakenly view Islam as the malevolent force that brought down the towers to the ill-considered opportunism of right-wing politicians who see Islam as an easy target.

    http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,2008432,00.html

So they basically just called Americans ignorant bigots..?

Interesting article by Bobby Ghosh, an Indian. I looked him up and it seems his generalizations are out of character for him. Its an opinion piece, and I suppose he is entitled to his. Here are some other opinion pieces by my fellow Muslims.

    http://www.illumemag.com/zine/artic...r-Speaks-Out-Against-Ground-Zero-Mosque-13210

Personally, I find it offensive that he sums up my fellow Muslims as ignorant bigots.

Fellow Muslims Americans are also mislead too. Don't know why its covered in media as "Ground Zero Mosque". Above articles also stating "Mosque at Ground Zero" and "Ground Zero Mosque". But mosque is not built on Ground Zero, its near ground zero. I'm also against the mosque ON/AT ground zero but this one is being built near ground zero not AT/ON ground zero.

The Muslim's who authored those articles know exactly where this Mosque is slated to be built. It is not just rabble rousers tying this mosque to 9-11. The builders of the Mosque have slated its construction to begin on September 11th, 2011 on the 10 year anniversary of September 11th. It would appear the concerns of these Muslim's who are offended at the very prospect of the construction of this Mosque are not unfounded.

The only thing that is missing is?
Why people who only know about Islam the Bush sentence "Islam is a religion of peace" are pushing for the mosque?

Absolutely nothing against muslims, but Islam is totally different religion and many times against western values. Why planting seeds that will sooner or later create problems?

Did you read of the proposal for an Islamic gay bar to be built right next to the mosque?

That is a great idea. Its so great they should put the Islamic gay bar INSIDE the proposed Mosque. If an Islamic center was to be built in this area that FEATURED a GAY BAR I wouldn't have a problem with it. They should film Gay Islamic men dressed in Gay Islamic warddrobes praying to Mecca five times a day while Gay bar activities go on. That would show the spirit.

Barack Hussain Obama, speaking at a Ramadan celebration, has come out strong in support of the mosque being built to commemorate the deaths of the heroic hijackers of 9/11.

Read the whole story at Obama Comes Out in Favor of Allowing Mosque Near Ground Zero.

Is this the same Barack Hussein Obama who described Christians as bitter Americans clinging to guns and religion?
