I used to give , but not anymore. There are becoming organized begging in the streets of my city, the organizers import 10-20 or more beggars from old eastern europe and let them loose on the street. So now the usual drug addicts and the old men are not there anymore because of the competition. And I dont give to the eastern european cause the "pimps" will take almost all of it.

A guy was begging for money outside of a restaraunt I eat at. I felt bad for him but what really broke my heart is that he had a little scroungy hungry dog with him. I told him to wait right there and I ran in and got him and his dog some food. I talked to him and he told me his story. Sounded like he had some alcoholic problems and couldn't keep a job and got kicked out of his place. He couldn't go to a shelter because they won't accept dogs, and he said his dog was the only thing that kept him going. Very sad. After I went home I just started crying. That would be horrible to be in such a situation. Whether he brought it on himself or not, it is just terrible.

I was at a cashpoint in North London a few months ago and the homeless guy sitting next to the cash machine obviously didn't care that I was on the phone because when I didn't give him any money he started screaming that he hoped I got mugged and had the crap kicked out of me. I thought that was very nice of him, so I waived my £20 in his face and told him to shove it.

I'm more inclined to give a homeless person food than money. Whenever someone asks me for change so they can get something to eat I offer to buy them a hot meal though they usually turn it down because their idea of a hot meal involves warm liquids heated on spoons.

I would offer them money for some food at Macca's only if I saw them purchase it. Otherwise, your just feeding there habits.

A lot of genuine homeless people have mental problems, so that's a really unfair criteria for giving or not.

I tend to avoid giving anything to the homeless in cities, simply because I can never tell who is genuine and who is a faker. And I don't want to be stoking someone's addiction and leading them to an even earlier grave.

I do occasionally buy the Big Issue though, because at least it's encouraging a work ethic.

I rather give them food, though sometimes they get mad at this. once I gave a homeless guy an apple, and he throwed it at me!

This seems to be quite a common response. So maybe the begging homeless aren't actually that badly fed, at least in Western cities?

Dude, this is a hilarious & sad thread all in one.

Anyways, in SF on 19th avenue I saw a homeless guy lacking his left leg I believe..it was heading north about 2 blocks before Stonestown. Anyone else see him? He's in a bad spot because fast traffic always goes through there..but a lot of traffic. Too many untargeted visitors come and go :p

I normally dont give them money. When someone sasy they didnt eat for past 2 days, I get them a decent meal (If I have some time on my hands).

There are a lot of begging organizations in India, who have employees who deposit all the money collected to them and they are not given enough in return.

I think some of those dudes on the freeways make a ton of money, wouldn't doubt if it was 100 plus a day. The ones who really need help, are the "invisible homeless", not the ones who make a career out of it.

San Fran actually gives away more money than most US cities on welfare, but it's homeless population is probably the highest, at least according to what I have seen 4 years ago.

Yes there is a dude in Spain where I have some property who drives to work in top range Mercedes, jumps out of the car, puts on some old torn clothes, then site outside a massive hypermarket begging(panhandling) all day

Makes a fortune........... this really sucks .................as there are 1,000's who I would be pleased to help out

But these parasites f*** it up for the genuine needy

That's the problem with society. The organizations in charge of helping the homeless are pimping out the most visible ones to profit themselves. What people in need need is resources, such as phones, mailing adresses, effective councelling. Yeah, money too but that is not the answer.

Again, BM talks out of his ass....

"Invisible homelss"? HA- Where do you come up with this stuff? :D You need to start your own podcast or something, dude!

I'm pretty sure an old man rolling around in a wheel chair in 10-degree weather with no legs, needs the money.

The only people I wont give money to are hippies.
