Hi there. I'm looking to set up a website where people will join and create a profile page about their skills in a particular industry and offer their services. Then prospective business owners looking for assistants in this field can come and search for people by the skills they are looking for in the city they are in. They could then view the profiles of these people and then contact them if they want to discuss working with them further or employing them. What website builder program could i use to do this? I have very limited html skills so i am looking for an online wysiwyg style website builder to use. Thank you in advance for your help with this.
You wont be able to produce such a thing using a WYSIWYG editor and limited HTML skills, least not if you want to do it properly. Perhaps consider going away, learning how to code and then revisiting the idea. Or paying a pro.
Hey. Again, depends a lot on the quality of site you want. You can go with the cheapest and end up with something that looks terrible and doesnt work great which in the long run will be a waste of your money, I mean, who continually returns to a badly designed site? The prefferable situation is, you pay a bit more and get a proper job done. I'm not going to give you a price as I'm not taking on anymore clients at the moment, but if you get some quotes from companies please do not just go with the cheapest. Price isnt everything and if you can't afford the company you feel would do the best job get some more cash together and re-visit the idea in a few months. I'm sure there are plenty of reputable firms on here you could ask for a quote.
Thanks. I am just looking for a basic website that allows people to join and put up their own articles, right now I am just using wordpress and people send me in there articles on stuff like food and reviews on products. I have no clue how to program lol, but I heard the cost is in the tens of thousands for someone to develop such program. So I might have to learn programming lol. Thanks for your information very informative.
As krata wrote, if you want to do something like this without hiring someone or learning to code Joomla or something similar may be a good route to consider. Joomla can be a great tool for someone in your position. It has a HUGE and very active community so help if you get stuck with something is never far away. The learning curve isnt too steep either, especially if you are used to using Wordpress. It uses a system of templates, modules, components and plugins similar to wordpress' own templates, plugins and widgets. Obviously, using something like Joomla to put together your site does limit you in comparison to having it made bespoke, but, it can be as cheap to produce as you want it to be and the results can be astounding when it is used properly. I still think you should try learn some code though because in the long run no CMS or WYSIWYG editor will allow you to do EVERYTHING you want, not to mention you will get more satisfaction from it
Drupal is pretty much made for this sort of thing. It probably wouldn't require too much coding either. Heck, I remember there being a step-by-step example in O'Reilly's "Using Drupal" that did almost exactly what you want to do.
You can search the Internet first, whether there is already the same site, and site quality and level of competition, can help you adjust strategy.good luck!
I think you can hire any professional web designer there are a lot of freelancer website that you can use
Am unsure about books mate, but there are thousands of resources online. http://www.w3schools.com is a great site, they have courses on HTML XHTML, PHP, SQL, Javascript, Ajax, jquery, XML, ASP... I could go on! Back when I was re training to be a developer I used their stuff to help me through and found it to be great. Like I said though, loads out there, loads that are free. I'm sure some people here will have other recommendations
Awesome Ill check it out, is this hard to learn if someone has never developed before or is it possible to learn this in a couple of months?
I think that depends how much time you have for it mate. If you're working 40hrs a week and trying to learn it on top then, no, couple of months wouldnt be enough to learn it properly, although you could easily pick up the basics of it and once you have those the rest tends to fall in pretty quickly, least that was my experience. One thing those courses can't teach you though is experience. nothing beats writing code over and again to drum it into the old noggin
I would advise you to use free or paid website builders, there are a lot of such. Modern website builders are very advanced gizmos that have huge opportunities to customize a variety of sites. For example wix builder who uses HTML5 and allows you to sell directly through the site.
