I'm looking for some article sites that have the following attributes:
    Pages Gather PR Over Time
    Contextual Links are allowed
    Free Listings
    Articles actually get read

    Any ideas?

in my opinion, it's usually only worth your time to submit to a few of the "top" directories. other sites will scrape those, and eventually your article will end up more or less everywhere.

some ideas for finding the "top" directories:

    top results on google
top results via category on alexa (should give a rough estimate)
google directory's entries for that category, since they'll be sorted by PR

or you could just skip all the work and pay someone a few bucks to submit your articles all over the place. :)

I'd rather go off recommendations from people instead of a random google search. I want to submit to maybe 3 total article sites, i'll be submitting around 4 quality articles a month to each one.

I always find it is best to submit your article to directories which get indexed regularly. If you submit your article to a lesser known article directory which gets indexed infrequently by the search engines then your article could potentially be stolen by unethical webmasters. They could then use this article for a one way link to their website!

Why not try one of the fast indexing sites: GoArticles and EZineArticles.

If a search engine indexes duplicate content it may not give it any value for your website!

You can either submit to only top 10-15 directories or you can submit to 100s out there.

A lot of new directories are planning to attain high PR, just like I am for my directory but keep in mind - my directory will not have high PR for another few months. Speak of getting indexed, my directory got indexed pretty quickly after launch and the bots visit frequently - twice a week.

One article submission service I'd recommend is iSnare (search for it in Google, sorry I can't post the live link to it yet LOL)

Beginning from only $10, you can submit up to 5 articles to 40,000+ sites and newsletters.

But I think the best way is still to submit selectively to only the top ranking or highly reputable sites in your niche that accepts articles discerningly.

im not really interested in posting to many article directories, i want to post to 3 quality ones. So far i've submitted to associatedcontent, and articlebiz. They are both high quality article sites. For the amount of time it takes me to write an article, i dont feel like getting the articles identified as duplicate content.

Duplicate content is unavoidable and I wouldn't worry about.

Take for example: Associated Press - They distribute content to hundreds of thousands of News Sites; sites which are routinely ranked higher than most.

You don't have to distribute manually to 50+ sites.

As someone has mentioned above - select say 5 to 10 that you post to manually then use a distribution service(s) to do the rest of the work.

It works like a charm my friend --- quit worrying about duplicate content!

any of the high tier article sites are scraped ALL the time and your article is going to end up on hundreds of other sites eventually anyway.

EzineArticles.Com is my top choice; I have submitted more than 700 articles to this directory since April 2006 and have enjoyed some great SEO via this site.

    I also like GoArticles.Com, ArticleDashboard.Com, ArticleSphere.Com, and SearchWarp.Com.

Directories with high page rankings are good for your articles. The truth is as mention earlier sometimes your articles are not noticed because of the high volume of other similar articles sent to those sites.

Consider smaller directores who can "feature" your articles at the top of the page and your profile is higher because these sites are not overwhelmed with a large amount of aricles.

Don't get me wrong high PR articles are great I have a few articles on a few. I will recommend one I use religiously ezinearticles.com

    Good luck.

If you are looking to put links in the article itself, most places don't allow it. Once place that does is:

    http://www.contenttycoon.com

Ok, it's mine. I only post articles actually submitted to the site itself.

ContentTycoon.com is PR 4 on the main page. The site is over a year old and gets daily traffic. Whether or not your article will be read depends on the viewers and your article.
