    Hi
I have been trying to find out a site / keyword tool that allows me to find out how many backlinks I have on X or Y keyword.
I find a lot of links on a basic google search , but most of them either keep looping or generates no actual result .
Do you know of any keyword tool which works currently ?

there are usually lots of threads in all forums - that's what forums are for. From what I have seen, most of them are for blatant promotion . Do you know of any particular tool ? If you do , feel free to post.

backlinkwatch[.]com is an effective tool that allows to display the anchor text along with it.

But one thing i will say in this context, if you are concern about extracting the anchor text or keyword then you can get only those where you link is static with relevant to the cached url.

    i.e:
    1. if you have a link for some directory site. say in url directory[.com]/xyz?pageid=1....on day 1
2.Search engine like Yahoo will cached the page and found your link over there thus will show the cached link as your backlink from day 1
3.On day 2 the ODP updates, and adds some more submitted url on that category and as per the pagination rule your link will now be on url directory[.com]/xyz?pageid=2
    4. Now when you will run such online tool it will fetch the search engine cached url wit pageid=1; and will not find anything regarding link
    5. It will be unable to display the anchor text that linked with the url.

Only directory like Dmoz provides static links where the cached url always remain the same for ever.

So the logic is you can only have the anchor text from those sites where the cached url remains the same for ever. Thus i think no such tool can provide you such data what ever they says.

The easiest to use is yahoo site explorer and it reports better than any other free tool I've tried.

Maximum tools uses yahoo search index for collecting backlinks of any sites. Now why 1000?

    Yahoo search result
So the answer is one can collect these backlinks from yahoo CSV report which shows only 1000 links at a time. For collecting more links the host site has to fire another query with another url which they usually don't do for free.

    So only 1000

    Google search result

If the host site is collecting backlinks data from google then things get more worst. reason is google allows only 1000 queries per day for any host site if the site is using google API key.

So for free they can't afford to spear all resource for you.
