when they ask you for it on the street? If so, what's the most you've given one?

I usually give a few bucks. If I'm with my wife I have to give five or ten. But I make her hand it to them. :p

depends on the creativity of the sign. If its "will work for food" - then no; if its creative "i need beer money" or something, then i've given something. I need to be entertained first :p

i find the extortionists at the red lights (with the milk jugs and orange vests on) far more obnoxious. If you ignore them, they'll knock on your window to show you what random charity they are raising money for.

    HA HA! Extortionists!!! :p

Around here, unless you lower your window or hold money out, they don't bother you.

There's one guy that stand outside of Golfsmith and claims he's selling candy for his high school football team. This guy looks like he's 35 and he stands there all year long. He hates me because I always ask if he accepts credit cards.

I gave about £20 once, all in 1ps and 2ps. I was a student and had a penny jar, when i moved out of my flat i gave all of it (still in the jar) to my local homeless person. I usually give about a pound though (depends how much change I have in my pockets)

If they are nice to me, they im nice to them. Think about it, it may pay off in the long run, since if i was homeless and starving, and no one gave me any money that day, it might be very tempting to burgle YOUR house. Think about that next time you just walk past a homeless guy/girl

I only give change to people that can be original. I gave the most money to a guy that said his family had been slain by a bunch of ninja assassins and needed money for his training so he could exact revenge. I won't give money for the usual "I ran out of gas" bit I hear a lot. There is also a lady that goes around my neighborhood saying she needs money to get her diabetic child medicine, but she doesn't have any children! Get a damn job, if I can suffer from complete boredom all day, so can other people!

From people like the pics posted thus far? helllll no!

I did one time, while out on my lunch break, get solicited from a middle-aged female asking for money to buy her 'kids', not her, some food.

I ask her if she was really hungry and she said my kids haven't eaten etc etc..
I told her to get her kids (she had two), and had them come into subway with me and i bought them all lunch.

Some of those people are making $40,000 a year. Tax free. How hard do you think it is to make $100 a day in a big city from handouts? A lot less hard than it is to make $100 a day from AdSense. Especially when you have "starving children."

I don't give to people who ask. If people want money they need to do something. Sing a song, do a little dance, etc. Otherwise by giving them money you're just reinforcing the notion that they don't have to do anything which is why they're poor to begin with. Some of them come with a sense of entitlement as though I caused their problem and therefore owe them something.

If you want to give, give but recognize there are plenty of resources already out there being paid for with your tax money and donations to charities.

That lady's children weren't starving due to lack of resources in the community. In fact, they probably weren't starving at all.

I live in a small rural community of fishermen. Sometimes the small home/trailers they live in catch fire and leave them with nothing as they have no insurance. I have been known to give to them and even go out of my way to help through the community for them.

Some may call me a sucker but, I wouldn't want to be in their shoes for even a mile...

    sad but true.

those types of stories about the 'homeless' guy going to his BMW after his 'shift' really sticks with you too. I'm not saying everyone is like that, probably not by a long shot but how do you know??

One day I went to a conference and was wearing a suit :O

I had borrowed a family members vehicle because mine was in the shop...It was a nice vehicle...I guess I looked like a person that may have some money?

On my way home, I stopped at a large gas station to get some gas and while I was pumping my gas this girl (about 17-19?) approached me and told me that she needed gas for her car, that it had ran out and that she had two small children in the car.

She asked me for cash for gas, I asked if she had a gas can, she said that she had one in her car, which was supposed to be "just on the other side of the building"...I told her to go get the gas can and I would fill it up since I had prepaid for my gas...

She then looked mad and asked if I was going to giver her any money or not, I said no, but that I would be happy to fill up her gas can...she walked off.
