OK I have a Google Sitemap and an internal link structure which, with a little help form a friend, is pretty damn good!! But I still have pages that site around waiting to be indexed by Google even though they have been updated recently AND have been updated in the sitemap. Does anyone have any sure fire ways of getting pages indexed\updated regularly? Thanks
Time and patience are the best way. Google will index your home page first and take it's own good time getting around to indexing internal pages. Once your site has been around for a while, new internal pages get indexed fairly quickly.
Thing is the home page IS indexed. Internal pages ARE indexed. But I have a number of pages that SHOULD be higher ranked as they are in pretty low competitive keywords but they dont get indexed from 1 month to the next even though they are updated frequently and these updates are recorded in my Google Sitemap. Seems that I am following the 'rules' but G isnt!!
Just asking, but how's the SEO on those pages? Keywords in titles, keywords in first paragraph, keywords scattered in content, keywords in internal links to those pages, keywords in ALT parameters? Are these pages linked from your home page? Do they link to each other? Are there any links on other sites to those internal pages? Why are your competitors getting higher ranking - older site, more content about keyword, more related keywords?
So many questions! The SEO is not too bad actually. Keywords in Page Titles, H1's generally first paragraph and scattered throught the page in content, some having links to relevant internal pages and keywords in ALT parameters. Not all of these pages are linked from the home page. Just the way the site is set up. I have started adding links to some of these pages on the home page as content which does seem to have some positive effect. Virtually all pages have links to at least 4 other internal pages including back to the home page. Virtually all of the key internal pages have backlinks from PR 6 site which is also industry relevant. The site is coming up for a year old and has far more content that any of the direct competitors (except those damn directory sites). The domain name is over 4 years old and up until December last year had a live website (although this site had virtually zero traffic). So, as you can see I am confused. Ok so I am still mid page 2 for this specific phrase but out of 211,000 I would expect to be page 1 if not #1!
