Thats natural when it comes to the big G. Just do the usual SEO in about a month or so you can see it ranking regularly with no sudden drops.

It sounds like your website is still a new one considered from Google perspective. If you have read and observed this forum you would seeing this - most of new website will have a good ranking for certain keywords for a period of time. This is called "honeymoon period" or whatever. Then that website ranking will be dropped significantly and it need both time and link popularity to help them climb up and stabilize in ranking again.

Only a week domain, and you expect to rank first page in Google? mate, it takes a lot of time and link building. I spent 1000's of dollars on link buidling, SEO on page & off page optimization, over 3 year online site, and it still don't rank on first page yet for my targeted keywords.

Just Google dance. Keep building links and writing unique quality content. You'll get there.

Checking Google position is like checking your weight when dieting. Don't do it daily; it'll drive you crazy.

Happens with new sites, I have found one of the best ways to stabilize your position it to get a good number of deep links.

Sxperm is correct. For new domains and sites that are live big G gives a grace period for ranking your site and keywords high. Then suddenly it disapears. But yes, you can maintain it just a lot of work involved and good link juice your website should be tracking back up the ranks.

Sxperm is correct. There is no guarantee that you will regain your top page rank.

Sometimes it happens. I find my site is VERY wonky as it goes up in the listings on google. Like it will finally get onto Page 1, then the next day back to page 2, then a few hours later even back to back 1. Then after some time it kinda stays put, and then later possibly goes up again and does it all over again. Just keep doing what you're doing and over time it should return.

I wouldnt worry about it untless you stay on the 9th page for more than week. Google does this dance sometimes. It's a funky dance.

    Just keep at it.
    But also...
You say you still weren't having improved traffic on a position on page 1?
I would suggest you review the text line appearing under your displayed listing and change that on the page. It's obviously appearing and you should be getting noticeably higher traffic because of the demand on that phrase. The text you have on that page that is being displayed in Google obviously isn't pulling searchers in.

Also, Google says that 'Debt advice' gets global search of 6,600, whereas 'free debt advice' gets 18,100!
For the sake of adding one word, you're missing out.
I would change your existing links where you can to include 'free debt advice', and if that's not something you are supplying, why aren't you?! Add some free advice to your pages and SEO that to death, it's obviously more valuable.

As said though, keep at it. I changed a few sig links and added some elsewhere for one highly competitive phrase just this week, and it's moved me from page 6 and 14 (on .co.uk and .com respectively) to second place in just a few days.

For a new website, drastic fluctuations of rankings is usual. What you just need to do is to exert more effort in getting quality backlinks.

    Thanks.

I'm quite new to all this, only been at it since about Dec, but I've discovered a lot in my work promoting my site.
It is a lot of work, but it pays off if you put the hours in.

    Something to consider:
Many suggest finding out what keywords are on your site and using them in SEO. But you need to make sure the keywords Google relates to your site (from the site content) are actually relevant to your goals.
For example, Google might say "credit card debt" is highly common on your site, but do you want to be promoting that over "debt advice"?
Many people loose track of the content they are adding to their site. And Google might only happen to see 50% of your pages and those 50% might coincidentally have the keywords you don't really need or want to rank well for.

I would always suggest choosing a list of keywords you want to rank well for based on their search volume, and then run a check to see how Google sees your site in relation to it.
Write the content to suit your site and your SEO and make sure you're working on the right keywords or phrases. There's little point working SEO for your site if people are finding it with keywords that are not actually relevant.

I'll PM you with another tip that I have found vital.
