Anyone here use reddit? If you submit a story to a popular category (one with stories that have hundreds of votes on the first page), will it be very hard for anyone to find your story if you submit a new one yourself? ie. it will have 0 votes unless you promote it yourself, just like digg? Or is there a way for users somehow vote up new submissions.

I'm thinking it may be better to submit to categories that are unpopular to give the story at least some exposure.

Also what happens when the same link is submitted multiple times to the website? I heard they have ways to detect this and do something about it.

    Thanks.

I tried it but found it a bit too cumbersome and unwieldy so gave up on it pretty quickly.

    Prefer Digg.

I'm only new to reddit but did get 1000 visitors from reddit recently with no promotion. I've been a digg user for years but even if i do promote my digg link it hardly gets any attention and it is impossible for me to get it to the front page.

IMO, reddit is better than Digg. The community is a lot better in terms of laughs, serious, horrible and rage talk.

To add to that, when I used to everyday blog, I would submit any daily links to both reddit and digg, and reddit def. gave me the better traffic. If the story sounded attractive, reddit would sure send few tens to low hundreds of uniques.

Usually the funny, wtf, science and programming worked really well. As well as the images part.
