I think, it depends on where are your visitors from. I.e., in my country, everyone uses google for searching web, maybe 1% are using other search engines. So there is no reason for me to try to be ranked higher in other search engines. But actually, i am always ranked higher in yahoo, msn, etc. But i never get visitors from those SE

Last five clients of mine just say me, Want First Page Appearance on Google, and i deliver as they wish. Above 70% users of internet prefer Google for searches then comes Yahoo and all others searchers are just 1 to 3%. SO why waste time on others?

Google is the big player thats common knowledge. But, is it the only one that matters. No, Bing matters also.

Bing matters because soon Yahoo will be using Bing for searches.

Google matters because that is where the majority of searchers head. I provide Professional Quality Articles and what most people want is a front page location on Google. I prefer to get them to the top 5. So, does Google matter more than some....yes....but its not the only player in the game.

Google is the only way to go to rank and other SE is just only the child of G,, So if you rank in Goo then no need to try to rank in any other SE at all

Wrong answer. You should try to get all the traffic for your search terms. In order to accomplish that task you need to rank in all search engines. Better watch out real soon here. Bing and Yahoo are teaming up to over take the Big G.

I have a friend who earn decent money from Yahoo only so I think that Google is not the only one search engine who provides good incomes.

Yes, the others matter, just not as much as Google.

If you are hungry and someone decides to give you a small steak, cooked just as you like it would you say "don't bring any potatoes they don't matter. Don't bring a nice salad. It doesn't matter. Don't bring me any bread, it doesn't matter. None of them matter. I have a small steak." :)

There;s lots of search engine out there but google, yahoo and MSN is the biggest out there. I would say if your ranking very well in lots of search engine but not the big 3, you will probably gets so so traffic.

Yes, any search engine that proves to send you traffic is worth ranking well. It's not just Google and Bing.

Google is the most used search engine. the first thing you must do is recognize trends and look up case studies done on it. Find out what people are using. A case study is a snapshot in time telling you what the current trend looks like, you can then make assumptions or forecast into the future on how to best market your website on those findings.

So lets take a look at some facts..Here is a Report generated Thursday, July 29, 2010 9:33:59 AM http://marketshare.hitslink.com/search-engine-market-share.aspx?qprid=4

View Trend Google - Global 84.96%
View Trend Yahoo - Global 6.24%
    View Trend Bing 3.39%
    View Trend Baidu 3.06%
View Trend Ask - Global 0.76%
View Trend AOL - Global 0.49%
View Trend MSN - Global 0.09%
View Trend AltaVista - Global 0.07%
View Trend Excite - Global 0.02%
View Trend All the Web - Global 0.01%
View Trend Lycos - Global 0.01%
View Trend Microsoft Live Search 0.00%

So does it really matter to worry about other search engines?

I would not lose sleep over it but if you take into account the amount of total internet users worldwide. Then 6.2% could equal well over a million people. So yes it is worth it. I would have to get the rest of the data to determine exactly how much you would be potentially be missing out by not targeting other search engines.

But the least you can do is submit your website to get indexed in those other search engines and apply SEO techniques to your website for all of them. Again though Google still holds the market share here so concentrating and learning how to optimize your website within Google should be priority number one!
