There's a certificate mismatch, the ssl being used currently on paypal's homepage is apparently issued to *.ebayobjects.com

I don't see anything like that. Did you click on a link or did you got straight to paypal.com?

I went straight to paypal.com & could see the alert in firefox.

I don't see the alert anymore & the cert in use now seems to be issued to www.paypal.com :)

With a big name like PayPal, I think they can't afford to be doing things like this. Must have been some problem at your end.

Hmm, I definitely remember what I saw the cert was issued to *.ebayobjects.com. I think that domain is owned by eBay.

If paypal had a security breach it won't be long before it's front page news. If I were you I'd be checking out the security on my own system.

No spyware here, by the way.

This is one of the most weird issues I have ever seen at PayPal.

Long ago, I got a certificate mismatch displayed on sites with paypal encrypted buttons, however the problem was solved visiting Windows Updated.

Something on my system was missed

yes I am seeing it since yesterday and the moment I saw it I closed the window. Checked my system clock and everything looked fine so again opened it, and same error but since I was typing paypal in addresss bar so I went for it that time.

What I was worried about was of spyware or some malicious software which might have hacked my browser and may be trying to send my info to some other site. It's still happening but since its happening to all of us, so ya a blunder from paypal.

Technically, anyone can enter that as WHOIS info. But I have seen the domain ebayobjects being used on ebay to load images, etc.
