is directory submission harmful?

Google does not give so much response to directory submission but yahoo gives. Is directory submission will be harmful for our website from the Google view?

 

If you buy links or submit link to so many directory in speed means if you submit to more than 10 directory per day and if they approve all of them it Google will think that you are buying links. Also, it mean that if submit your site to 500 directory a day you have 500 on 1st day 3500 in week almost 15000 link in a month.

Also, there many site owner notice that if you build link from directory, but with that if you advertise in Google adwords than it would hurt you much or not at all.

 

I think directory submiision is necessary for our web pages...so we have to use directory submission on daily basis...

 

Does yahoo charge $300 to harm you?

 

not Harmful...but not as useful as they were once deemed to be.

 

I have a link on DMOZ. That page where my link is has PR6. Still, there's not much gain... so... maybe PR is not that important.

 

I feel this is another myth, a misunderstanding in the webmaster community.

I think that google removed the mention of submitting to web directories because they know that people tend to not listen to some simple advice so instead they removed the past suggestion knowing that the webmaster community will create their own beliefs.

Google has said not to submit to poor quality directories (in so many words) the opposite happens though and i think theres probably more poor quality ones now than there ever has been.

This confusion will never stop though, just use your common sense people, c' mon, i mean everything is bad for you if you do too much of it or choose bad quality.

If you consume thousands of calories of poor quality food then clearly you wont look or feel good, simple answer.

 

Directory submission is not harmful at all. But make it sure that submissions are in relevant category and in quality directories. Irrelevant categories work in a negative way.

 

How so? I'm interested to know how submitting a site to the wrong category can have negative effects on the site listed?

 

Harmful in what way? Can you be more specific?

If it was harmful to list in a directory competitors would spend all day every day submitting their competitions sites to web directories.

lol at above comment. There are many people here with web design sites asking how to float divs. And SEO sites people own and asking how to get more backlinks.

Quality of service isn't what it use to be...
