is it wise to do this?

I am thinking that instead of a single general web directory, why not just create several niche directories using one domain only?

for example, I could do this:

    sports.mydomain.com
    internet.mydomain.com
    directories.mydomain.com

will there be problems with this?

Its in the same style as looksmart, for each category there are different domain names, but be sure that all your subdomain names (or domain names) are hosted on a different IP or it'll be messed up and you'll loose the advantage of using domain names.

why would it be messed up? errr I am asking of subdomains?

edit: I just looked at looksmart and it's not really what I want. I am thinking more of using a subdomain for each category and treat each category as a niche directory.

    I don't think its good........
If you try some different domain then it'll be more fruitful for you.

one reason I guess of not wanting to buy another domain is because of my gf. hehe. I joined one seo contest (not the one in my sig), bought a new domain and then she told me that I am contributing to the spamming of the web. lol I am a good boyfriend, what else can I say? :p :D

I'm interested in getting a definitive expert opinion on this... on one hand having a number of domains helps for organizing your niches. Also some link submissions wont accept subdomains... on the other hand, if you have subdomains... you can do better branding for one domain.

Im interesteed to see definitively what would be better... I've been wondering the same thing for quite some time.
