Page 1 of Google for top two keywords, yet no PR.

Discussion in 'Google' started by Mr. Corey, Jul 28, 2010.

  1. #1
    #1 Keyword - Baseball Forum
#2 Keyword - MLB Baseball Forum

Both on the front page, my link is www.baseballnation.net

I had PR1 until about a month ago, it dropped back down to zero.

PR doesn't matter to me, but it's just confusing. I'm on the front page for two of my top keywords, yet I don't even have a PR anymore.

Congratulations on getting to page 1. The reason could be the term is not that competitive which allows you to rank on the first page without any major authority (at least in the eyes of Gogole). PR is random at times. I had a site with PR 1 getting 2k uniques a day from SE's while a PR 5 got about 100. You simply need more back links on high PR sites, but you already know this :)

Both keywords are non-competitive. Non-competitive keywords use different factors than competitive ones. Forget about PR.

18,100 searches a month, would that be considered not so much competition?

You need to select "exact match" in the keyword tool. Right now you have broad selected.

There are 1,600 global exact searches for Baseball Forum
Only 46 global searches for MLB Baseball Forum

The number of searches relates to the demand for the search phrase, not the competition. Competition is the number of web pages also targeting your phrase.

See so much BS about PR.
Glad to see somebody else thinks it´s meaningless.

It's great to see it. I was just confused on the Page Ranking factor if i'm on Page 1, but I didn't think about the competition, like a nimrod. That's what a 14 mile bike ride does to you, especially when you ride those 14 miles in less than an hour and a half. I'm beat. PR is meaningless, the only thing that matters is my forum is on the front page for the top 2 keywords in my niche, and to be honest, I don't care about the competition, it's the fact that people will see my forum on the front page if they do indeed search Baseball Forum. I remember searching baseball forum on Google back when I was 12 years old.

How do you get only 1,600 views. Is this in google search, or is it in keyword research tool?

First, congrats. I'm impressed that you rank for those two terms (they seem pretty significant to me).
Second, I think this is a great example of how important PR is... :)
I'd much rather rank #1 and have no pagerank, than have a pagerank of 10 and be on the third page...
It's where you rank, not what your pagerank is, that matters. :D

We build sites for visitors and traffic and unfortunately, PR does not seem to help us in this endeavor. Why worry over something that just stays in the tool bar!

PR is useless, especially with non-competitive keywords like those...

So do inbound links help you reach the top of the SERPs at all?

People don't demand much for baseball ATM and even though you've reached the top that doesn't mean that people are most likely going to discuss baseball in the forum all the time. Sports forums, websites are very seasonal. Basketball forums can really be as active as hell when it's the start of the regular season and get fly sky high when it is the playoffs BUT can also sink if its the off season, which might be the same as a Baseball forum. IDK, I'm not a baseball fan! :D lol

I am agree with you. Some time before I had also lost my PR from 3 to 2. but all my Google rankings were on the same place.

Different pages on our website rank for different terms for both SERP and PR.
