Theme Suggestion

Here is what I am looking for. You can take a look at my site http://bestarticleservice.com and see that I am using the choco theme. Now I do not hate this them, I am just not sold that it is the best for my service.

What I am asking is for someone to recommend a free wordpress theme for me to use. It needs to be business geared. Which means no fancy backgrounds or colors. It needs widgets and must be able to be customized with ease. I say this because I am not that savvy when it comes to adjusting the code for the theme.

That leads me to another question. Any place online to learn this stuff would be great.

To me, your theme looks fine, however i would look for more seo optimized wordpress theme (you can do google researches for it). Eventhough theme is not the only factor, but i guess it really matters too whether the theme is seo optimized or not.

And also i would change your default wordpress permalink to be more search engine friendly, and delete the hello world default post to be "more" professional :D

    Just my thought, good luck!

When you say customized with ease, what exactly do you want to achieve? If you can't code, template customization is always going to be difficult.

No fancy backgrounds or colors is also quite general...Have you found any samples online that you can post for some ideas about what you are actually looking for?

In terms of learning, dp forums are a great place to ask questions :) But other than that, go to wordpress codex: http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page That pretty much covers wordpress coding for you...And also w3 schools are good for html and css tutorials: http://www.w3schools.com/

    zhoom,

I am glad that you came by and posted the links. They are what I have been looking for, since I am working on gaining the knowledge needed. Oh, I do understand that if I can code then customization is going to be difficult. I have seen some that have some customization options in the settings menu.

    Hi,

There is a website called as web2feel.com
They provide you with free themes that are awesome. All the themes in that site are WP 3.0 compatible.

No worries mate. To be honest, I'm not the best at finding or knowing where to find free themes as all mine are custom and usually created from scratch. However, Wordpress.org (the official Wordpress site) has a large number of free themes available and you can search by the specifications you want: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/tag-filter/

In terms of learning, find a simple but properly designed and coded theme (like the default wordpress theme), and then look at the structure and play with it using css and html techniques. Once you have mastered some basic css and html, have a go at learning and customizing some php from the wordpress codex link I posted.

Also, it's important to learn the structure of a Wordpress site. Check this out: http://codex.wordpress.org/Stepping_Into_Templates - again from Wordpress Codex...
