A popular choice is a 336 x 280 block floated left or right so that the text flows around it. Try and use colours that are present in your theme to blend the ads.

In my experience I've received the best results by putting the ads as high up as possible.

To many surfers are used to banner ads and avoid them almost automatically. I would try the text ads and put them at the top or right margin, or even in your main body. Good luck. Otherwise, if you do have a banner, I would place it somewhere at the top of your page.

I'd stick to 336 x 280 block floated left or right so that the text flows around it.
