No. 1 in Google but little traffic

    Can anybody help me?

I have a number of sites ranking number 1 on Google - wonderful, but even though they are in highly competitive niches, like weight loss etc. and the monthly search volumes are huge, the actual amount of visitors is quite small, around 20 - 30 a day.

I´m not talking about conversion rates but simply visitor numbers.

Does anybody have any reason why when search volumes are around 20,000 per month I am only getting about 600 - 900 visitors per month?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I think that takes into account total search volume for the word / phrase. This doesn't mean number 1 gets it all; also sponsored listings can take a big chunk of the traffic as well. If it's a phrase I would break it down into an even smaller part, perhaps one word which should significantly boost your search engine traffic.

Perhaps, your title is not attractive as people want to look. If you are first, your title should be relative to keyword. You have to promote by advertising in pcc to get good traffic.

If the niche is high, it does not mean, you get high visitors. 90% of people who search, visit google ads only.

You must consider checking your advertising title and lines.

    Just an opinion.

    Good Luck :)

strange.. does it have anything to do with geo location? if you site is about your area, your search result will be different from search from other location.. so #1 might not be the case across the board.. use TOR proxy to see if yours still number one with different IP

The long-tail should get you those peak users specifically looking for your niche.
Look again at your ad copy and start experimenting- furiously.
The answer will present itself. it always does.

Organic ranking? See your landing page if its good enough to drive your traffic or visitors on a clicking bonanza. Yes you are good on your niche but the question is, Landing page relativity for the search term of users? User perspective..

I have the same issues myself I rank highly for about 20 different keywords and get around 1k visits a month from Google.
I think people are searching for something that they really arent searching for.

    example

Im looking for a pair or Reebok classic I type in Reebok classic and your site appears number one when actually they are looking for Nike shocks or something.
they close the page and research.

Actually PPC ads only get around 1-4% of the traffic depending on the search terms.

As far as SEO goes I've also got a few phrases ranked in the top page and they too drive B-all traffic. There is a theory that maybe Google are toying with the search results in their external KW tool, but really who knows?

Are you using the Firefox Browser?

If so download the plug-in Google Global so you can see where your site is ranking in the US and UK search results.

Just because you are number 1 in your browser does not mean you are in other users browsers around the globe.

how relevant is your website's material / title / description compared to the keyword?

people skip the first few results if they don't seem relevant to them

Do a survey and make your description more appealing. You should do a survey or some sort to see why those 600 - 900 visitors visit your site.
