Well its tricky to answer actually, yes the directories mentioned above are all established 'good' directories, but it really does depend on the site you are submitting. If the site is very niche you may find it does not fit in with those directories and there may be a specialist directory which would provide a more qualified link.
Ho hum.... isn't this question getting a little old? This is a daily question, it seems... see: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=140409 http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=120550 http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=138568
Are you satisfied with the quality of the threads that you are linking to? Add it here if you like http://www.frogengine.com/search/Internet/Directories/Directories_of_Directories/ (ignore payment, since "directories of directories of directories" are free )
There seems to be new directories every time this is discussed. My personal opinion is to get into the Major directories Yahoo and Google use. Yahoo takes a long while and Google's preferred directory depends on the moderator.
I was linking to them as an example of the frequency, not quality. I am guessing that awconner was referring to the ODP.
