Feedback There are too many advertisements on this forum.

I've been a member of this forum for quite some time now, admittedly I'm not the most active member as I tend to read the threads and posts rather than creating them myself.

Anyway, I've noticed over the last year or two this forum has become absolutely saturated with ads in the form of banners, contextual links and AdSense. I understand and support that in order to provide such a high caliber forum you need to take aswell as give, but seriously - balance it out a little more.

As I previously stated, I enjoy reading the threads a lot and I have clicked a few banners that interested me (there's my contribution! ;)) but having several banners and contextual links aswell as all the AdSense links it just distracts me and puts me off to the point where I rarely just "browse" the forums anymore.

The excessive ad's distract the reader (me) from the valuble content that this forum was built on.

So why have the amount of ad's increased so much? Is it solely to pay for running costs of the forum, or is the boss just getting a little greedy?

Okay I just had a proper look and it seems there was not as many ads as I seem to remember.

But the AdSense link inside posts and the contextual links are still really annoying and I stand by my claim that they distract and deter readers.

On a positive note, I think the banners (between posts) are well placed and well targetted. I've never had a problem with these and infact have found them quite useful.

Well the contextual links aren't adsense and I find them a bit annoying at first but hey, It might be just me and you against all DP members and I really think that there are still useful for others. ;) The banners sometimes do give it away, a banner on the first post and then on the space in between the first and the second seems to be redundant. Again, it might just be me. :D

Dp has new advertising technique which will be less cluttered and less intrusive. At least, i guess so.

Second that, if you really don't like ads.

From the perspective of a website publisher, let me tell you: annoying, invasive ads work.

Such is the price of keeping a site like this free to join.

I'm a website publisher myself and I disagree.

I think I speak for the vast majority of internet users when I say that I very rarely (unless by accident) click on an "annoying, invasive" advertisement.

Ad's should be targetted, presented well and welcome the 'clicker'. The complete opposite of what you just said.

Just installed it. I can't believe I've been living without this for so long, I'm impressed. It's a shame I have to resort to blocking DP's ad's. Like I stated, occasionally I do find them useful but compared to the annoyance the present me with it's just not worth it. Hopefully DP rethink their Ad locations and quantity.

I think the ads are wack! I don't see other legit forums using it...DP gets revenue through premium memberships and other things...turn the ads off!

lol. Why dictate if DP wants to earn more through contextual ads and through adsense? Surely you would aim to earn more if say you own a forum so popular such as DP? and please don't compare DP to any webmaster forums out there, DP has always been one of a kind. :D

    If you are being overwhelmed with ads, I think you have some adware installed on your computer or something. For the most part, there is 1 small banner ad per page at the top. {shrug}

But I guess to each their own... maybe you think http://forums.seochat.com/ is less overwhelmed with ads? lol

Firstly (and I double checked this), there is more than one small banner ad per page. On most threads there is the banner ad you mention, plus an AdSense bar after post number 1 which varies between a single line of text links to a full-width banner. As well as this is an AdSense ad within the initial post of almost all threads, which again varies between banners and text links. And then there is the contextual links embedded within posts.

I don't have any adware on my computer and I don't appreciate being patronized. Considering this thread was posted in the "Suggestions & Feedback" forum, it got a pretty crap response from 'the boss', which loosely translated as "Whatever, I couldn't care less about the users experience. The ad's are making me some money, and that's all I care for."

I've been a member of this forum for a few years now and never have I had the chance to talk with you Shawn. If I knew what kind of person you was like then, perhaps I wouldn't have registered in the first place.

Don't bite shit on the hand that feeds you.

Slow down mate. I think you misunderstood Shawn with his post and I think he's referring to Ryan Boulware.

It has always been better to hand out suggestions rather than just complaining how irritated you are with something. If you want something to be sorted out, do your part and help.

Well compared to what ads were when you joined, there are actually LESS real estate taken by ads today. Back then the banner at the top was twice as big, and the ad under 1 post has been there since day one. The main difference today vs. 2004 is the top ad is 234x60 when before it was 468x60.

I simply don't agree that the forum has become "absolutely saturated" over time with ads, that's all. :)

No, it isn't just you. I hate those 460x68 ads that break up my posts or anyone elses when we are trying to make some money. It's screwy because you think that the ad is part of the spiel ...I told somebody that I clicked on the banner and it didnt make sense (this was a while back).. but the reason it didnt make any sense to their topic is it was a google ad, lol. :D I cant believe the ads are right in the middle of our text. It seems that Google would make the forum admin separate the ads clearly from the content.
