    Hi Guys,

I don't know much about GPL stuff. So can you tell me if I can remove "Proudly powered by WordPress" credit link from WordPress Twenty Ten theme footer LEGALLY.

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can remove it. GPLv2 has very few restrictions.

Actually I received a request from a blogger to remove the footer credit link from his blog. I'm just clarifying the confusion.

Hide it instead of removing it. You, the blogger, and Wordpress all win. :D

Hiding text is not good for SEO point of view, the site may get penalized. I'm leaving it to the blogger. However, here is an article how i removed the footer credit from Twenty Ten theme.

Wordpress is released as GPL license and you can modify and edit its source code and there is not restriction that u keep any link to wordpress official website. You can remove "powered by Wordpress" link from ur website.

No search engine is going to remove a site just for one hidden link, especially when it's on a Wordpress theme and points back to Wordpress.
To answer the OP's question, there are lots of big Wordpress sites that have no credit link. I'm surprised when I find a site that has one.

Crediting WP is something we all should do more.

    It can be removed.
You shouldn't try to hide it or mask it with CSS. This is a bad practice.
There is no reason to credit WordPress, they do an awesome job but there is really no need.
