Wow it looks great so far. Wouldn't it be hard to view the car though once it's done, because there would have to be so much scrolling?
Thanks for all your input guys! really appreciate it and it makes me want to continue! @sunster: yeah, thats why we would need to come up with a way to zoom out a lot and click the parts you want to zoom in
Make a little flash interface for that. How's the car coming along mike? That wheel looks amazing btw.
Why not sell the advertising sspace to custom car part companies? They you could have bid wards over brake pads by the brake companies - or a hurry to be the first custom brake company to get in. Target marketing! This way, the car-related sites are more likely to link to your site. You can make that check out to ....
The only thing is, on the internet companies dont like there names near others, I know in the real world it happens (eg Racing) but I have always found on the net they worry a bit more
In this case, we are talking a viral campaign (a lot of visitors) and this gives the opportunity for building brand awareness. It's not like a huge wheel with each spoke being the name of a wheel manufacturer. We are talking a full car and granularity is at the part level, not sections of the part. Oh gosh...what an idea I just had...you can probably figure it out.
Great concept, here are a few ideas I had: 1. Sell the ads on a sliding scale, low to high to build interest and encourage people to take a chance and buy a spot. 2. Turn the car idea into some form on entertainment and offer a prize at the end to get people to view the site. Something like walking around the car and having to find the key in order to get the prize inside the car. 3. Animate features of the car and incorporate moving ads for a higher price. 4. If the idea makes some decent money, you could branch into making custom models for various industries and sell the whole thing to a leader in the field. In the end even if you do not make any money from it you can always turn to teaching people how to use photoshop because there are many of us that would love to be able to do what you can with it. Good Luck and please update this thread as you complete more of the design.
Neat concept (and I'm a former 350z owner as well ) I think you should build a page / site immediately, so that people can watch how things come together. To build buzz - you could ask people to vote on things like car color, modifications to put on it, etc. Basically - let the enthusiast community use your site as a way to build a custom-designed car from the ground up, based entirely on their votes. If it is a 350z, I'd scope out http://www.my350z.com/forum/ and check out the off-topic boards (like I said I used to be an owner). Once you get some following and some interest, you've got yourself a viral following that you could monetize - including letting sponsors pick their specific part for a mod for a price. Good luck,
Im sorry for very very late Reply...I was out of town for some time, so I didn't get much work done, however I did get started on the chassis. http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/1478/chassisphase1te8.png and the metal work: http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/8273/chassisphase2lightingwx8.png
It's a nice idea, and if you are creating the car anyway, then why not? Even if you only get a few advertisers, you will earn more than with none! If the website it is on and the way people navigate around is slick enough, it will work. I can imagine it being very viral actually. I like the idea of browsers trying to find things on the car - you could put small [somethings] in there, like a little person in the wheel which is only visible when you zoom almost all the way in. Make those clickable with the chance to win ... something! Or even just a nice wallpaper featuring the car.
Hi Mike, Great work and interesting idea. One idea I had was that once it is up and running, you could make a contest out of it and have people "search" for the details, which would reveal the advertisers websites. The person would have to click through to the advertisers website, which would be tracked, before they would receive their prize, etc. I'd have to put more thought into, but it might just give you an idea to work from for marketing it.
