Hey, I own a photoshop and php tutorials & resource site: www.ray-industries.be , and I would like to know if it's any good running contests on the site. I am in big need of members and I was wondering what was your expirience in running contests (on sites with possibly a similar topic). I was planning to give either, only a first prise, with 1 year DeviantArt subscription, or more prises, with for example, 3 months subscriptions in conjunction with hosting and possibly other prises as well... I also want to hear from you, what prises would you give up to 30$ in total?
if I go with t-shirts, how would I give the t-shirts to them? and what are these 10$ giftcards you're talking about? where to find?
Send using post office. I'm not in USA and I've recently received T-shirt from Sun Microsystems. Although, I had to pay 1.5 eur for customs check. Amazon?
I've run contests before on several sites. Do you have an ezine? Contests can be a great way to collect opt-in subscribers and then email them later with news about your site. Of course, not all people who enter will stay subscribed or read the ezine, but it can help. What about free templates as a prize?
I already offer that as a download. But maybe if I buy the template for them, from an online store of their choice, up to 30$ of template. It could be worth it.
T-shirts are always nice. I find contests work well to get surfers to sign up. Not as effective in getting affiliates to send traffic in your affiliate program.
You might put "subscribe to our mailing list, gets news about the site regurarly and also get a FREE T-SHIRT"
I see all of you are talking about t-shirts. Well I'm from Macedonia, if I were to send a t-shirt to USA, it would cost, quite a bunch. Or am I missing something here?
That's why I said no to T-shirts ^^:; PnP to everywhere would just cost too much. where as gift certificates wouldn't even have to be posted - you could just email the ID of it to the winner.
I think you should save your money until you can offer a larger prize amount. $30 ranged prizes won't get too many people excited.
How about offering them free .com's registration of there choice else always give some gifts that have ur site/company link on it like logo on t-shirts etc its kinna marketing stratagy too
Imo, $30 prize or just one winner of the contest won't attract too much attention and traffic. The key to make a contest successful is to have a higher value prize and more winners.
You're right there. What i did was, I contaced a local online business to where i am based and asked them to provide a prize, which they agreed to do. We have a deal in place behind the scenes with the company, but we now have a Macbook Pro Laptop as a prize to give away.
