I personally think the days of one single person becoming a millionaire from a blog are very far and few in between and most of what people believe are fairy tales or a bastardization of one or 2 stories that may have some truth in them, but are not the whole truth.

Usually it is from a culmination of things, knowledge, expertise, partnerships, sponsorships, connections, and other opportunities with the blog merely being the catalyst.

No one is going to drop a free theme of a basic installation of Wordpress and blog about mundane subjects such as technology and make a crap load of money.
No one is going to be a millionaire blogger without doing something original that is needed or wanted by the masses and without a serious understanding of marketing and networking...and what ever happens is not going to happen quickly.

The brutal truth is most bloggers will not make any money and very few will even be able to make a living.

I don't know anyone that makes a decent living from just having one blog and nothing else going on, unless they are considered an expert or reputable source in their fields and usually that reputation was built over a period of years in the business world before they even started the blog.

A blog is just a tool to promote a product. It's not the product.

I definitely agree with everything hmansfield has said and I don't think that successful blogging should ever be equated to being a millionaire.

A hard worker with a good idea and some knowledge can certainly make a good amount of money by building an audience and selling some ad space, but let's be realistic.

In addition to direct income from your blog, remember that there can be other benefits, like using a blog as a springboard to a new writing job, that can pay off over time.

Well personally i think a blog is a way to express thing which you like. Blog is not a tool to make money it is just a platform through which you can review about your interesting stuff and then show it to people and get admire. Me my self is earning from affiliate marketing and i think that is about the money.

Hey there, Ive never heard of a millionaire blogger, but I have heard of six figure bloggers. They use SEO and and stuff similar to the sort to bring their sites to the top of the Search engines, that, and the amount of content produced constantly.

I believe about 2 years ago there was a movie called "julie and julia"... it's about a woman who started a blog were in a year she did ever single recipe in a julia child's cook book. Like I said; this blog turned into a movie as well a book. No, she didn't make millions from blogging it's self. But i'm sure she made over a million with movie+book deals/sales DUE to her blogging.

Why not? Because you need more than just focus to generate enough money from a blog to make a million dollars. That kind of success doesn't come from merely having a nice blog, it is more likely the culmination of a combination of income sources, possibly related to the blog in some way, but not just for having a blog.

A blog is not a business. It's the medium that you use to promote expertise or a business. It's not the newspaper it's the articles, information and the writers. It's not the TV station it's the programming that comes from talented actors, directors and producers.

The average person is not going to even make a living with his or her blog, let alone become a millionaire. You need to diversify with multiple income sources online. Very few people with no money will make that kind of money from one lone website or blog. The odds are one on 50 million...an you have to have some kind of expertise or talent to even think that you have a shot.
Blogs are a dime a dozen.

I really believe hmansfield it's really really hard to earn millions in a mere blogging.. there must be an enormous amount of effort and innovation to be exerted.

Blogging is too easy, and there are too many blogs around for any single one to be making millions.

hmansfield hit the nail on the head! The only way to make money online at this point in time, at least it has been mine and my client's experience, is through utilizing that blog as a source to drive traffic to an end product. Using the blog only to make money is very unlikely to happen (unless you are already well known like a celebrity and then wouldn't need the money) or you have had your blog online for years and years and are well known on the internet.

Sure, you might drive a few clicks through adsense and/or make a few dollars through affiliate programs but believe me when I tell you....With years of experience in this field and a few networks of sites working for me, I manage to pay for my domain and hosting and an occasional tank of gas! But I continue to blog on these sites strictly because I like the niches that these are in...(programming, auto repair, and guitar playing)

There are other sites that I have where I actually sell products and those are the sites that are making a living for me. And, I have blogs on these sites that drive quality traffic to my sales pages where the money is made--that being said, blogs are useful but unless something happens that I can't foresee, I am not going to get rich from my blogging and I don't think that anybody else will either without sponsorship, being well known, etc....(Just my opinion)
