Place only one Google Ad and you will earn more money?

I was reading another message board and some guy said he only has one google ad and he makes more money and improved his clicks when he took down the other ads.

he said he did a study for a few weeks with google ad channels and checked which ad got the most clicks so he saw that one ad was getting more clicks and he took the others down and said his click rate and earnings went up substantially. I am thinking about trying this out but I keep thinking if I remove the other ads and this doesnt work my earnings will go down but maybe its worth a try.

Anyone else try this and only have one advertisement on their page and they get more clicks?

I have heard this before, but not got round to testing it. I've been looking at which ads make me money .... and where ... and keep thinking about testing it myself... but I am a cowardly type of person, so it'll take some time/convincing before I do it (or when my earnings rise to such a point I can afford to take the loss if it doesn't work out)

I'm curious about this too.. I heard that the actual click "value" of the add increases when the page has less add blocks.. so that higher paying advertisers show up more than lower paying advertisers. So, theoretically, you can get the same number of add clicks, but will actually earn more money.

If anyone tries this, can you report your results back here.. I too am too chicken to try it out just yet.. ;-P

Yeah thats basically what he said.

He said if you put 3 of the same size ad block and notice on each channell that one placement area is not getting the same type of money per click, remove all the other ads and keep the one ad.

It also makes your site less of an eyesore with all the ads.

    Hey Vel,
Did he mention the position of the ad placement? I wonder if that had anything to do with it...

No he kept that secret for some reason. and it sucks :( All he told me was you have to try what works for you by doing the adsense channel test because everyones site uses a different style theme or template so some placement doesn't always work for others.

    hope that helps.

It can be true because if you put only one ad code best paying ads will be located there, otherwise people have a chance to click on ad on other ad codes where ad prices are lower.

Basically give the visitor less chance to choose and you will profit.

It really just depends on the colors of the ad and the placement.

I tried it twice last year. I did not notice a significant increase in earnings. Yes, CPC went up very slightly (negligible) but my CTR was down. My website articles are long so I use 3 blocks - one under the title, one unit midway and the last unit right at the end of the article. A visitor will never see two blocks on their screen at the same time in this instance.

It just depends if a reader instantly clicks upon landing on the article, or reads a bit and clicks an ad midway or has the patience to read the entire article (or at least scroll down to the bottom) and then click an ad at the end.

I have kept all 3 blocks on separate channels (top, mid, bottom) and I have noticed that CPC is lower on the bottom ad unit but around the same on top and mid.

it's true. Only when you can manage the same CTR.

So, for small page, one fold page, place one AD is a good idea.
But for long page with many content, you have to place more ADs to cover your users eye.

Once I believed on this theory but not now. Reducing Ad blocks will lower your CTR that much that it will will decrease your revenue. I have tested it myself and I didn't see any change in CPC. May be it depends on keywords too.

Did you use channels to track your high earning ad block? You have to remove the others ads that have lower clicks and leave the ad placed where it earns the most, you determine it by looking at your channels.

The niche might be something that's causing this to happen. It's hard to tell by not looking at the site.

I will try to reduce number of my ads, but not only 1 ad.
I'm afraid the CTR will drop too much.
Probably 2 links + 1 text ads + 1 search should be a good combination?
