Hello! I'm a technology expert and developer from United Kingdom, and this thread is going to be to identify your perspectives on the future of technology.

There's many things that my company are working on, and it's made me realize what the possibilities are for us and the other companies to release within the next five years.

    My first hand opinion:
    - Voice training technology (VoIP) with much more
    - Really fast broadband (and a lot of stuff to go with that!)
    - The 'next' big thing will be here!
    - Digital advertisements on the outside world (shop windows, taxis, etc)
    - Very very advanced HTML coding and standards.

What are you working on or what do you think will technology bring in 2015?
I don't think HTML can get that much better, just harder and it won't be good if it does. Simple knowledge means more.

i think you have a lead on something here i like your way of thinking its very interesting , but actually in my world technology would be cool cars , houses that have robots that operate with voice machinery , devices that activate when you voice tone comes along , and finger print ideas as well i'm not sure how far people have gotten in my technology but i think by 2015 we should have a big portion of the country working with these kinds of gadgets

For a "technology expert" your predictions were very tame.
"The 'next' big thing"? faster broadband? very advanced HTML? ummm ok...

It is a very difficult thing to comprehend, so I understand the vagueness. I mean - who would have predicted google over taking yahoo, facebook over taking myspace or apple making the rebound of the decade?

Fundamentally there have been no revolutionary breakthroughs for quite a while (I consider the last great one to be the transistor, not the ipad as steve jobs would like to think). The next one will could be anything really, nanotechnology could cure most diseases and solve many of the worlds problems. If A.I. finally breaks some real ground (I'm not talking about neural networks and fuzzy logic here, I mean real terminator type crap) we could see our arses getting fried. Nuclear fusion would change the world and change the balance of power. This is all 5+ years though.

The near future is pretty easy - things get smaller and smarter, data mining gets better - so you can receive the best personalised spam through hundreds of different communication mediums. There is always an ever increasing focus on all things 'green', so batteries will continue to get smaller and more efficient. It could even spill over into programmers writing 'green' libraries that use less CPU cycles and therefore programs that generate less heat on all electrical devices.

Hopefully, newspapers will finally die. Hmm... 3D browsers? :) More immersive computer games. I'd like to see a hydroponic skyscraper, I doubt this will be within 5 years though.

I could go on for hours - chances are, I'd be so far off what would actually happen that it's just a waste of time. :) That's if we even get past 2012, ha.

oh... here's something I'd like as well. You know that sensor that Sir Stephen Hawking has on his chair? that reads his eye movement.
Now, they already have sensors to read activity in the brain. What if we could interpret it?

What I mean is... you would think of searching wikipedia for something and your computer would actually do it. No need for any more input devices.
Add this to a portable computer that has a screen inserted into your eye - like a contact lens. So you are always online... if you need directions, you think about where you want to go and it highlights the road in front of you. Get where I'm going with this? :)

Definately, but it's like with the fingerprint reader, it's practically useless to the masses unless it has the backing of a large corporation or entity. For example, nobody used Webcams until people started integrating features such as Skype, Yahoo! and Live Messenger. I would guarantee you if Apple introduced a fingerprint technology it would be as large as Apple Mac's without question, simply because of the ecosystem Apple has at their fingertips.

Also, my examples are ones people can relate to and the fairly more common ones. The discussion is about the more popular ones, as proven with my examples, however if you would like to take the conversation into more depth I will be more than happy to give you an 'expert' response.

personally, I suspect things will have changed out of all recognition in 5 years... OR... it will all look pretty much the same. :)
