http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/amazon-affiliate-link-localizer/ Looks interesting, I installed it on a blog and apparently all you need to do is activate it, no need to do anything at Amazon. I have nothing to lose if it's non-us citizens I wouldn't have gotten a commission anyway. The way I see it it can only improve conversions.
Thats a nice little plugin, I wonder what it uses for localisation. And what if your linking to a product that exists on Amazon.com but not on Amazon.co.uk?
Seems nice, but I'm now not so sure it would be that effective. From what I understand when people from other countries search for a product using Google they'll be redirected to their own countries searchengine. For instance even when typing in the .com a person living in Canada would be redirected to the .ca version.
some good plug in must have a great name too, and I never heard about that plug in.. so I doubt it........
Sometimes, identical items on Amazon.com and .co.uk does not have the same name. I uploaded the plugin to my site, searched for an item on Amazon.com, got the same item on the .co.uk site (with slightly different name) - added the items to my site, fired up a UK web proxy for testing. I then went ahead to click the Amazon.com item on my site with hopes of getting re-directed to the UK version of Amazon but, it did not happen. So, does it work? I can't say for sure. The creator of the plugin stated that if the item is not on the second site it won't re-direct. In this case of testing with identical items with slightly different names it did not work. Maybe testing with items that has same names might work. But, it is sometimes difficult due to certain variations in US and UK english; I have noticed that many identical items on both Amazon sites has different names. Anyway, I went ahead and deleted it from my site; having also found out that there are some associate ID's which are probably owned by the plugin creator in a .js file located inside the plugin folder.
Having installed and reinstalled the plugin, and tried to run it with all other plugins disabled, I still can't get it to work - Amazon links from my site continue to default to Amazon.com, although I live in the UK. Others seem to be able to use it without any problems...weird...and frustrating!
It's good and bad. For the amount of traffic you get from other countries, (when you're targeting country A with your efforts), I don't think it's really worth worrying about to be honest.
I have created a Amazon Link Localizer that is completely customizable and correct all those issues you were having, If a product is slightly different just edit the asin number in the back end, mine also have a flag feature which is a manual option which means its does not rely on geo location. A link localizer has to have the option to customize it since there are on many occasions slightly different Asin numbers descriptions etc and this one cover all of those previous issues. Thanks Yes it has been very well received and some Amazon Affiliates noticed an instant increase in Amazon Sales. Kickin it on Amazon Gaz Cooper Amz Training Academy
A guy from the warrior forum tested out 1.5 of the Amazon Affiliate Link Localizer plugin and it was not redirecting. But he shared his tests with the developer and he had updated it(v1.6) and passed the additional tests the guy did. The latest version available is 1.7.1. One thing to keep in mind that you have to add normal Amazon affiliate links to your posts and not cloaked/redirect links. Here's a link to the changelog: wordpress.org/extend/plugins/amazon-affiliate-link-localizer/changelog/ I stumbled across Gaz's new plugin and would've of bought if it was around $10 but $27 is too much in my opinion for this type of plugin -- especially when there is a free one available that IS working now -- and it's really hard to say if it will be worth it at this time for the amount of international traffic I get. When you think about it, there are some stellar Wordpress plugins for free, so I get bit of a bad taste in my mouth when someone charging $27[more] for a wordpress plugin people want when there is a plugin that has been updated numerous times, does the same thing, works, and is free.
I appreciate your input however to compare my plugin to the Free wordpress plugin is like comparing an apple to an orange and IN NO WAY does the free wordpress plugin have anywhere near the capabilities and customizable features that my plugin has. The Free one you are referring only has ONE feature ONLY and the whole reason I went to the trouble and developed this Custom plugin was because of the MASSIVE limitation that the free one has, and the fact that while you say it works (my research indicated otherwise) the fact that the product generally either has a different ASIN number or description or may be a slightly different product and this means the free one will not work for those products and will send them to a search page only, where as mine allows you to correct that among other features. My Localizer allows you to see which products are not found or that have different ASIN numbers or Descriptions and then you can simply edit it right away, inside the plugin and direct your visitor to the correct product page. Even then there may be errors with link localizers however I also added A Custom Flag feature which can also be a manual Link localizer option. It allows you to add a line of flags with a CUSTOM call to action text option where you can enter any call to action you wish. This is a great option that does not use GEO localization but direct links to the product pages ensuring there is no way you will lose a sale. I also include 9 Custom Instruction videos to walk you through step by step all the features of the Link Localizer so you can take full advantage of it. I really would not of gone to the expense and hassle to create this plugin if there was one that was working already, I would of just used that one but since I did some market research and what I got back from the free one is a vote of no confidence in using it. The reasons given were multiple which anyone can find by doing a search, the market wanted a more robust plugin that worked and was more flexible so I developed a really great one which is 100% customizable. You will see some in depth reviews coming out soon, comparing it to the free one and I think it will be very clear then that while the idea is the same mine is way more cusomtizable and flexible for Amazon Associates. Price wise you may have a point, but it is still only 4 Amazon sales at 4% Comm to cover the cost, but i may do a WSO and offer it at a lower price for a short period. I already have users reporting instant International sales after installing the plugin and those are sales they were not getting before even with little International traffic it was still money left on the table that is now in their pocket. I did do a "search", and most of the negative feedback that I noticed was about 1.5 and I mentioned this above on how the developer took the negative feedback and resolved the issues. I considered the date of the posts, and that the developer has been updating it since then and does what what it says it does now -- so that's what I meant by that it works, because someone could go by a thread posted a year ago stating it isn't redirecting to the proper store and such, but some bugs have been worked out. It appears the developer has fixed bugs IF people report them. Thank you for clarifying more on how your plugin works. I noticed the features you listed on your sales page, but it wasn't clear to the extent of how customizable the plugin is or what it meant in practical terms. Maybe I needed to read it again, not sure. I guess it wasn't clear to me how much more robust the plugin was than the free one to warrant paying $27 more for a plugin. You may want to provide more info about the how and why each feature is beneficial, and the type of scenarios they could come in handy. Again, I didn't say that the free one does what yours does. Remember, this thread is about the free one, so I just provided some info on how the major bugs were improved, and the guy that tested it found the bugs, tested it again after the dev. had made changes and verified that it was then working to the point of redirecting properly(as claimed, even though it doesn't have your plugin features to custom direct customers). The developer has fixed other bugs since then and the last update was fairly recent. I noticed you have been promoting your plugin on threads like this one where there may be some doubt that if the "Amazon Affiliate Link Localizer plugin" works, which could be from some of the bugs I mentioned above. There has been some changes since the original post, and it appears that some people didn't go into the settings area to add specific country affiliate tags in. Surprisingly people assume to just use the localization plugin and make money from other countries!
Appreciate your input again, and I really don't mind if someone wants to use the Free one, go ahead and use it, and if its working perfectly then great, but it does not come close, to what my plugin offers as far as features and customization and that is my only argument. The reason I built the plugin was because the free one, was and is, extremely limited, and I felt, as an ACTIVE Amazon Affiliate, I could design one that gives the user complete control over their links, and to counter act the very limited capabilities of the free link localizer. All I focus on is Amazon, I live. eat. and breathe it. and I am constantly working on improving conversions for not only my personal sites, but the 1000+ members of my Amazon training Academy. Prior to developing this plugin I contacted many Amazon Affiliates and got a vote of no confidence in the free one, this was after the update as I was aware of the update and have used it but its so limited that I wanted to develop a fully customizable one. I also asked what Amazon Affilaites would like to see in a Link Localizer as far as features and capabilities. I listened to them, and developed this one with all the features that were suggested After release, I have a whole bunch of new improvements that will be added from current feedback on the next update of the Amz Link Localizer So the 2 products are miles apart as far as features and capability, and they cannot be compared on the same platform If someone wants a free localizer head over to wordpress and download it and see if it works for them, if your not happy with the free one, then head on over to my site and take a look and see if mine might suit you better. If it was me I would try the Free one first too, it just makes sense Kickin it on Amazon Gaz Cooper Amz Training Academy
My gripe with the Amazon Link Localizer was that it changed all my tracking ids to my default/main on Amazon, therefore I couldn't track clicks . So I quickly uninstalled the plugin. Anyone know a way around this?
Just to be clear to readers your talking about the Free Localizer one correct. ?? Kickin it on Amazon Gaz Cooper Amz Training Academy
