Best Way to See Where Site Ranks?

After the Caffeine update, Google ranks sites based on your search activity.

I have opted out of this, but I need a way of seeing where my websites are ranking accurately.

I use two services to do this:

    Scroogle.org
    PageWash.com

However, they both show totally different results. On one of these services my site is ranked 5th, and on the other my site ranks 8th. When I do a normal search on a browser/computer I don't use a lot, my site ranks 6th.

Which is more accurate? Does anyone know, or could anyone suggest an alternative service?

Why are you using a service to find the rankings. None of the user will go for a service. They will do the search manually. So search it manually.

Google ranking sites based on search activity will works only when you have enabled(mostly by default) personalized search option. So disable the option and you needn't worry about the search activity. You can do as you wish!

The web services can show results from two completely different data centers too. What that leaves you with is a big hot mess of rankings results that don't match up. Have you explored the option of performing the scans with software running on your local machine?

    Hi Brad,

No I haven't explored that fully, but I do have Webceo seo software. I can get the rankings via that software, but not sure how accurate it was/is. Further to that, my IP address seems to get flagged after a day or two of running scans from Webceo, which is why I have moved to more server-based services when running checks etc.

It's better to check your rankings manually because people do the searching manually.

I use market samurai also but not for quick searches to see how my sites are doing. I love MS!

    Interesting.

I do check my sites/keyword phrases manually, and I have disabled personal search on Google, I just want to see what the search results look like to a first time searcher.

A lot of you seem to be saying the best option is to check manually, or run software on my computer to determine my rankings.

    Appreciate the feedback.

You can check ranks using our automatic service - SitePosition.info
Websites positions depends on region. Positions in UK and US are different for the same keywords.

It's ok when you checking 2 keywords and 1 site. But if you working with 20-30 websites and 100 keywords - it takes not "few minutes" but "few days". 30 (sites) x 100 (keywords) x 3 (engines) x 10 (search pages) = 90000 pages must be viewed. You can load and check 1 page per second? Congrats, it takes only one full day :)
