Getting unique content

    Hi

Has anyone tried having article writing competitions on their website?

Example: Say you have a soccer website, to have a competition whereby your visitors could write an article on a soccer related topic. The best article chosen then win say $50.

This way you could build up some real unique content for your website (fast if you have enough visitors) and for much less of the prize…

    What do you guys think???;)

I like your idea. I have tried this for my adult dvd review site by offering anyone who can submit properly formatted reviews of any adult dvd I will allow them to put 1 link to their page in each review they submit. My site gets mauled by search engine bots daily and I tought this would be a pretty good idea but noone has responded :(

I also have an adult health and fitness site that I would like to receive unique health and fitness related articles in exchange for having a linkback in each article. Financially, I'm not in a position to offer cash prizes. In the future I would consider this.

Google a few of the more unique phrases they use. If that doesn't catch anything, odds are the person it's stolen from won't on the rare ocassion it is stolen.

If you have a forum, then take the best of the forums and blog them. this will give you plenty of content.

    copyscape.com.... it checks for plagiarism.

A contest is tough seeing how you would have to promote it, but if you got enough traffic maybe some of your visitors can be writers. But if you don’t have a lot of traffic I would just spend the $50 on a writer.

I agree with JSource, I think that you would need an awful lot of traffic to get the conversion of people entering for your contest to pay off.

I think you have a very good idea. I believe you will most definitely benefit from having a contest like that. All the best.

sounds much like Helium if you ask me. They pay for the best articles submitted to contest too but think the readers help choose by giving it a positive review or something of that nature. its been a long time since I been on there

Sounds cool, but getting a full-time article writer would probably be even better because the content would be exactly what you want, you can tell them how many you want, how fast you want them done etc.

Sounds good, but I think better idea is to pay per views or if you have adsense ads, offer adsense revenue sharing

Remember that any author retains copyright over their material, so you'd need to offer some additional "prizes", say the top 100 articles would be published on your site, with a link back to their site. That way they'd be more interested as their chances of winning something would be greater.

You'd need to check the legal side of things out properly because submitting something to a contest does not give you any rights over that material. If you put it in the rules of submission that your contest will give you the right to publish their material, then it won't go down well with the writing community. You expect to be paid for your efforts, make sure they are too (links = pay).

Exactly, no one likes to get taken advantage off.
