Why do they? I've read many comments on liberal blogs calling for a $10 minimum wage, saying that all these "greedy" oil ceo's only work 4 hours a week, claiming that an increasing difference between rich and poor is an outrage but why? They say that they are for the rights of the working person but what if I feel that I can offer my services for $5 and hour? I'm unemployed! Aren't wealthy people also working people? 80% of millionaires are 1st generation millionaires meaning that they started from nothing and worked their ass of for it but somehow these are all greedy bastards making money by scamming poor people? What place does the government have deciding how much money you can have? What place does the government have deciding how little money you can have? Economic freedom is a lack of government control not income redistribution. The only arguments for this are false ones that claim that "the whole economy may be better" but what about individual rights? What about personal freedoms? So the main thing for me is why? These people must know that taking away individual rights is morally wrong so do they think rich people are not even people? That they are the scum of the earth? Are they peronally guilty about a decent lifestyle and want to take it out on people who make a decent ammount of money? Please help me answer this because it has been bothering me for quite some time.
just out of curosity, can post a link to that info, I have always wondered what percentage of millionares are self made
That's an incredible generalisation there. Not all liberal people oppose the wealthy; and the word "hate" is silly. There is a general belief amongst leftists that the Rich are not taxed enough. I'm for the minimum wage increase Also, that 80% stat. you gave is rubbish. Lee.
80% of millionaires probably have less than 2 million... all the 'hand me down' rich people have moved themselves from "middle class" to billionaire now
Liberals are human too, and they experience the same emotions upon hearing of someone elses wealth - envy, jelousy.. it just comes out different. 'Tax the rich' they will cry - when the rich already pay far more in taxes than any poor person or average family will do. The rich person earns more, therfore he pays more in taxes thus he is helping his country far more financially than most other people, yet the rich-hating liberals forget this. 'Oh people like Bill Gates should be taxed more' - ha, excuse me? How much does Microsoft contribute in taxes Mr Liberal? Right, so be quiet. Pete
You know I think is really funny Conservatives who think they are either rich, or think they will be rich who identitify with billionares. That is like people who make like measely 100k a year who think they have more in common with billionares then they do with the average person. Where I live there is this club called Ocean Reef, its filled with the super rich, they have like mutli million dollar houses with multi million dollar yachts in front of them. They have their own hospital, store and airport so they don't have to be exposed to regular people. Those people are rich, people who have little successful businesses and make a few bucks, who think they are rich , are kidding themselves.
My sources: Drs. Thomas Stanley and William Danko's research published in their book "The Millionaire Next Door: The Surprising Secrets of America's Wealthy" It doesn't matter whether or not you think someone may be bad for society as a whole, if they want to be "bad for society" they should be able to if they want. Start thinking of minimum wage as a restriction on employees rather then employers and your opinion will change.
I will check it out Who said someone was "bad for society" ? You see everyone who works for me either gets paid a lot more then minimium wage, or they work in a foregin country, so I say raise the minimium wage, then maybe more poor people can get online and buy more crap from me.
I found some quotes from the book you mentioned I am curious if that holds true with the billionares, also this book defines someone has a millionare as someone whose net worth is a million, I thought it was someone who makes over a million a year. why not? there are certain people in society that are messed up in one way or another and cannot get a good job. It might be their fault or might not, but either way those poeople should be able to make enough to live. When companies like walmart squeze out almost all the other employers in a small town, is it fair for them to then squeze all those people who can't find other employment? Its not like they saying raise the minumium wage to $50 an hour, its like a couple bucks difference
Ever heard of a charity? People who are messed up in the head go to these "charities" to try and get help, they should not have the government force money away from people to fit their needs. Yes it is fair, 300 million people in america are qualified to be a greeter and that means that they will not be paid very well. If you do not like your wages then increase your productivity and then ask for a raise. Ever heard of supply and demand? It seems that you don't get out much if you don't know this basic economic principal, sitting in your bubble whining about other peoples problems does not change it.
One can't survive on the suggested minimum wages in California ie the ones they desire. It would most certainly require the person live with family, have a spouse to support them, etc. Minimum wage is sign that they have to get educated or they'll live with very little money.
I don't think liberals necessarily hate people being rich, then just hate the idea of exploitation. Although I wouldn't say all liberals are the same...some just are on the verge of being socialists.
That cartoon showed the thought of corporations being detramental to society as a reasonable idea and you must agree with it if you posted it there. And what? Noone is entitled to a nice apartment in California and the government should not have the right to say so.
What if those people are too proud to go to charity and want to work for the money? Have you ever heard of exploitation? Do you employ a lot of people at minium wage? If not then why do you care if walmart and mcdonalds shells out a $1 or $2 more an hour for their workers? Do you think there should be no minium wage? Maybe we should go back to 60 hour work weeks and child labor. That is what an totally unchecked free market often produces I didn't realize I was whining, I acutally thought you were whining about those nasty liberals trying to keep those poor billionares down.
I don't think anyone has suggested that people making minimium wage should get "nice" apartments, just they should be able to live indoors and eat.
