hyphen doesnt have an effect on seo..
just make ur seo good and it'll rank better than non hyphenated version

Many used this method.. but I don't think its very useful. It may distract your users too.

that's correct... url structure is not a matter of SEO but url readness is... it's always better to use real keywords than some random generated strings

you have 2 things to consider when it comes to registering your domain name. one is branding and other is SEO. you can either have a brandable domain name which is easy to remember, that is if you care about branding and have a site that worth promoting a brand for. or you can get a domain that is good for SEO. combination of both, if possible, will be for sure the best course of action.

you however cannot find the right domain with your keyword in it, not anymore these days. since it is extremely important to have the keyword in the domain, you can either add a generic term or a dash with your existing keyword to get the SEO domain. for example, if your keyword is "big blue widget", then the idea domain would be bigbluewidget.com. if thats not available, you can go with big-blue-widget.com or bigbluewidgetonline.com where the term online is the generic term. either of these will be perfect for seo.

so if you must use a dash within your domain, feel free to do so to get the domain with your desried keyword

There is no problem in having hyphen in a domain name. If you have a good on page and off page SEO, you will get good results.

its nothing bad if you are using hyphen in your domain... only the keyword matters whether you are using keyword in your url or not.... and rest depends upon you Seo for the site...
so dont worry about hyphen in the url
