Hi, this is my first post here. Forum looks great, so I wil hopefully stick around and contribute where I can. Ok,I have a campaign running in adwords where all terms are set to Phrase. Is it possible to find out what was actually typed? Eg one phrase is Air Compressors So was oiless air compressors air compressors spares air tools compressors actually typed? I know I could run another campaign for exact match but I want to know if there are any terms out there I am missing? Or the way some people write the terms and the order of words in that term? I hope that makes sense! Everyone I have spoken to so far doesn't really get it. I think you can do it with filters, right? Cheers George
Hello, Have you tried Google Analytics? This will tell you exactly what search terms where typed when visiting your website.
1.Login to your Adwords account 2.Click on the Campaigns Tab 3.Select your campaign 4. Click on Keywords 5. Click on See search terms (you should see it above the list of your keywords) 6. Click ALL You will see a list of keywords that attracted clicks to your ads
Do what ian said. You should regularly review this and select which ones you want to exclude if they're not relevant, increasing your ROI.
Thanks guys. This is very useful info and helps loads finding those keywords I could never have thought of. If i set up a campaign that includes: oil free air compressors - EXACT term oil free compressors - PHRASE term Which one will show up when someone searches for: oil free air compressors Because both are applicable and both adverts should show, but 2 can't show at once?
Both are not applicable, but I assume that's a typo, and you meant them both to be the same. In which case - exact match. Google triggers the ad from the closest match, which is will be exact match if that is exactly what was searched for.
oil free compressors - PHRASE term will not show for the search term: oil free air compressors A phrase match keyword has to contain ALL the words in the right order, so oil free air compressors must be somewhere in the search phrase, so the phrase without the word AIR will not be applicable. Searches such as these will display the phrase match keyword: cheap oil free air compressors oil free air compressors boston So you need to have: oil free compressers phrase and exact match too if that's what people type into Google. (Just noticed we're all Brits on this thread - Hello chaps!)
Sorry I didn't get that. But the phrase keyword set up in the campaign = oil free compressors. Why would my advert not show for the google search: oil free air compressors ???? That search has oil and free and compressors in it, and in order!?
Hi George, It would not show because there is an added word in between free and compressors. The phrase has to be the same. oil free air compressors is a four-word keyword phrase. ALL FOUR words need to be in a search (and in the same order without additional words in the middle) for the phrase match to be triggered. It can have words added to the beginning or the end however. OK think of it like this. Imagine a four-word film title like "Back To The Future". Because all 4 words are pretty everyday words on their own, you probably won't see sites about the movie if you don't put all four words in a Google search together. It's the same with oil free air compressors, so if you want to capture searchers typing:oil free compressors, then you need to have exactly that three-word keyword phrase as a phrase match and exact match keyword in your campaign. So have: "oil free air compressors" [oil free air compressors] "oil free compressors" [oil free compressors] Then you're covered. Does that make sense?
Thanks for getting back to me. In regards to my original post, I don't know the EXACT keywords. So I want to set up a PHRASE campaign, then use Search Query report to see what triggered them. So a PHRASE campaign for: Oil free compressors [phrase] may result in: oil free compressors for sale buy oil free compressors oil free compressors for sale. I don't know, the results will tell me if!? I THOUGHT PHRASE CAMPAIGNS TRIGGERED SEARCHES THAT HAD THOSE WORDS IN IT. So {phrase} oil free compressors. Would be triggered by oil free compressors for sale. oil free air compressors for hire (because this contains the same words in the right order, regardless of the word air being in there!) Many thanks George
Yes, that's right. Do what IanTheKisser suggests and you will see what people are typing into Google to trigger your phrase match ads. Good luck.
Hi Just to go back to this. If i just run phrase and exact match campaigns. Can I find out what was searched for on the phrase matches?? So if i phrase match "air compressors". I can find out if people have searched for "buy air compressors". Or is this only possible for Broad searches.
