nothing wrong in it . I'd rather subscribe to ANY service(I am not into text link ads btw) through an affiliate ... doesn't cost me anything and makes someone else happy .

When I ditched my paid links, my site shot up to the top. When you think about it most paid links are pretty easy to spot. Look at you competitors high ranking links and try to get on those sites. Also don't be so cheap and get listed in some of the less popular directories with high pr sub-pages. $40-$60 for a permanent one-way link is not bad when you think about how much money you can make using SEO. Busniess.com at $199/yr is an awesome link to get and you can deep link 4pages. Ezine articles work well too. If you going after compeptitive keyword phrases and can't pony up a few grand to promote your site you will eventually get passed by.

Not completely true. You don't have to pony up a few grand to start a site. I constantly start sites with the money in my pocket. You just have to be smart about it.. Don't reciprocate, setup three way links, submit great articles, code unique sites, honour your users, etc. It's what I've been doing for years and it works like a charm.

 I posted that link 2 days after starting the thread. It's not like I started it to cash in on anything.

It's perfectly ok to cash in , it's not like it's a breast cancer forum

Buying through affiliate link is better than buying directly imo . Dunno why people got their panties bunched .

This brings up perhaps one of the greatest mysteries... What came first: The chicken? or the egg?

Either get one PR7 or several lower other site that are frequently updated (like blogs) and googlebot will hit you hard :)
